Default 'Clerks II' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter just posted his review of the 2-disc HD DVD edition of 'Clerks II,' in stores next week, and looks like he was a fan:

I didn't need a review to tell me that this was a definite MUST-OWN...but after reading, it makes me that much more excited.

Default Clerks II HD-DVD

Hi there,

I have one question: Yesterday, my Clerks 2 HD-DVD arrived here in Germany. I was absolutely eager to put it in my HD-DVD XBox 360 addon. To my surprise it didn't work. "This disc won't play because of your age verification settings" !!!!! Hey, even the unrated versions of "Miami Vice" and "Fearless" played flawlessly. So what is the problem ? Did any of you get the same message - is it a defect HD-DVD ? Please answer.

Thanks from Germany

Chris

It sounds like you may have activated some parental control in your 360 (I own the 360, but I have never even looked in the parental control section). There is probably a rating embedded on the disc and the 360 verifies it against the settings you have under parental control.

I am just guessing.

Sounds like the settings on your XBOX profile are set to not allow R-rated movies to be played. This can easily be changed in your profile settings.

And remember "Unrated" is not equal or more raunchy than "R-rated" by nature. It simply means "not rated", and since it's not technically rated as anything adult (cause there IS no rating), "Unrated" movies never get flagged as such.

Even at the Circuit City where I work, if a kid comes in and wants to buy the unrated version of, say, Showgirls, the computer will not flag it as requiring an age check like the R-rated one would. Wierd, I know, but it's just how it works.

Default X-Box 360

Thank you all for your prompt answers

I checked again. My age verifications shows: Play all games ( = disabled), but I can't change the settings of the button "film". It is grey so I can't change anything. Under "Jugendschutz" (youth protection in german) it also shows "disabled". So why doesn't it play ?

Should I try to contact Microsoft about the issue ? Or should I contact "The Weinstein Company" for help ?

In Germany we don't have an "R" rating. The equivalent here is "Ab 18" (over 18 years of age) or "Ab 16". I tried this settings, too - won't work.

Thanks for your help

From what I'm told, you can't buy really violent videogames in Germany. You should move to a less authoritarian country ASAP... Err, or maybe import a 360, I dunno.

Ditto for me, the screen doesn't even properly load before it moves onto the Main menu.

I do not have the add-on but from what I've read, there is a firmware update that you need to download. With the update you should be able to play the movie without any problems.

Well I am 100% hooked up through XBL, so not sure why a required firmware update wouldn't have automatically downloaded. It has done this in the past several times, but not lately.
