This is actually standard procedure and Universal does the same, Day and date titles are released in combo but later are switched to non-combo once it is no longer a new release. Warner will likely continue to release combos for day and date.

They really need to stop with those damn combos! I was against them from day one. This is good to hear.

if i had a choice with every new release wouldnt buy combo ever,

but combo has its good points.. i know some people that bought them before they had the player because it would work until that day.

i vote for a choice, combos available online and noncombos in stores

Default Letters from Iwo Jima (Re-Issue) (HD DVD)

I'm definitely going to have to wait for this and pick it up. I've been wanting this movie but wasn't willing to pay the high price for the combo. Also, it's very nice to see that the re-issue will include an English Dolby TrueHD soundtrack instead of the Japanese TrueHD soundtrack. On the combo issue, I've kind of changed my mind on it. I used to hate it but I wanted TMNT HD DVD to watch with the kids and I wanted my wife to buy it. At first, she said there was no way she was going to buy it because the kids couldn't watch it in the bedroom, or in the car, or at their grandparents house. Low and behold I said "wait one second here, this is a combo HD DVD. This disc will play in any DVD player that you have". Sure enough, the combo aspect of the disc was enough to persuade my wife to buy TMNT.

Ha-Le-Lu-Jah..... Ha-Le-Jah..... Hallelujah, hallelujah...

LOL... But seriously this is fantastic. I've always been an antagonist for combos. I'm very happy that this is happening. Now, if we could only get them to do this with day-and-date releases, we'll be all set.

this is exactly what they're doing, but i'm afraid the public perception will be that combos are failing to meet up expectations and blu-boys are going to make a big deal out of it.

A move in the right direction. Now, Warner and Universal, please stop doing those stupid combos all togehter. No wonder people rather buy less expensive non-combo Blu-ray editions of The Reaping or The Departed...

That is actually a very good point. Since the policy with combo discs is to discontinue them after a fairly short while, that kind of makes them limited editions which may actually increase their value over time.
