Default 'Bubble' - High-Def Digest review

We're a little late with this one -- although it hit stores a few months after its original Blu-ray release, Kenneth says this HD DVD edition of Steven Soderbergh's 'Bubble' is nearly identical. Unfortuntely, that's not good thing, as he found the crystal clear shot-on-HD video a mismatch with both the film itself and its barebones audio package. Making matters worse, both high-def editions drop most of the supplements included in the feature-packed standard DVD.

I've been very tempted to get this movie because it was actually filmed about 5 minutes away from me using nothing but locals as the actors for the film, but the reviews are so bad for it, I still haven't and probably won't.

I was mildly interested in seeing this, but the review has given me some reservations about even renting it.

On the other hand, it currently has a rating of 6.7/10 on IMDB, which isn't too bad at all (2,382 votes so far). Rotten Tomatoes overall rating is 6.3/10, again not too bad. So I might just give this sucker a rent after all...

It's definitely a rental, not a purchase.

I have a copy, picked it up as a 'bargain bin' item on eBay.
It's a really different type of movie. I like it.

I'm not big on extra features, so I didn't even realize it lacked the extra features of the DVD. Recommending the DVD over the HD just for the lack of extras seemed kind of harsh to me. It's very decent PQ.

I grew up in the area where it was filmed, and it definitely captured the essence of small town life.

Wasn't this the movie that they attempted to try the day and date theatrical and video release with?

Yes and it also states that in the review.

So you're saying I should actually read the review before commenting on it...

Probably not a bad idea.

I saw this title in Moviestop today, and had no friggin' idea what it was. I can't believe it's actually reviewed on here. I thought I had found some rare "unknown" hd-dvd. darn!

I saw this last night and I enjoyed it very much. Very realistic, and that's part of its charm. The doll factory scenes are very interesting too. I'll have to go with the majority on this one (IMDB and RT), the movie has a nice flow to it and is refreshingly different from standard Hollywood fare.
