Thumbs up '300' - High-Def Digest review

We've all been waiting for this one... Peter's review of '300' on HD DVD is up. As predicted, he didn't love the film itself or its purposefully-degraded visual style, but still this HD DVD earns high praise (and a 4.5 overall rating) from our prickly Mr Bracke.

I was actually going to break down and actually read another review from here until i saw this remark. I now remember why I stopped reading the reviews here and will keep the streak alive. No read for me.

No you should read it. At least he makes it very clear he understands what the film is supposed to look like and says the HD disc replicates it well.

Good review. The movie itself doesn't deserve any higher than a 3/5. I'll be picking up the HD-DVD on day one, but the movie just isn't as good as the hype would make people believe.

I don't think I'll agree with the 4/5 for PQ though. This film should look nothing less than perfectly stunning on HD-DVD.

I agree with this review of the movie itself except i'm not sure how something gets 41/2 stars overall with so many 3's in the categories.
I think the movie itself is really one dimensional .Obviously lots of people agree because whole websites have sprung up making fun of the whole Leonides "SPARTA!" yelling thing.

Exactly, which is exactly the kind of reviewing that infuriates me so again I am gonna pass. This thing has gotten rave and I mean rave reviews from everywhere else that has reviewed it, this just backs up the reason why I stopped reading reviews here, nothing more.

I agree with the rating that the blu-ray is "recommended" and the HD-DVD is "highly recommended". Other than that, I'm just going to shove my memory of this review out the window. I understand the complexities of a 5 star system ("if I give this disc a 5 then what do i give discs that look better?"), but seriously, get a new rating system if its such a problem. In the meantime, we get reviews like this.

LOL, I just took a peek at the overall scores after reading this and this is a good question. Another good question is how this thing scored only a 3 in extras as this thing is packed to the gills full of extras and very cutting edge extras as well. My god what would a title have to have in order to get a 4 or 5 in those catagories, it boggles my mind to imagine it. He must be savingthose 4 and 5 star slots for the 3 and 4 disc HD special editions of the extended versions of Lord of the Rings, lol.

i was afraid for a second that this website was gonna give it a 3 or less since everytime a movie has grain they mark it down alot for not being like absolutely clear HD material.

Im still very exited to get this title...next week is the big one

Once again, I agree. People try to read too much into this.
