Default Amazon's top HD DVDs of 2006

We posted a story this morning on Amazon's top-selling high-def discs of 2006: http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...lers_Lists/402

The story itself covers the top sellers for both HD DVD and Blu-ray, but we've also posted a complete list of Amazon's top selling HD DVD's of 2006 here:
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/amazon2006.html

What I find interesting about this is that it seems like a good majority of movies that are offered on both formats are being bought more on HD DVD. Perhaps the studios will see this and realize that perhaps they'll sell more copies of their movies if they support HD DVD, too?

We can only hope right? Be interesting to see how this all plays out a year from now.

Interesting list, I plan to add a lot of the top 15 to my collection today (it's Boxing Day in Canada).

That's what I'm hoping for!

I wish they released some sales figures, for the top ten on both formats.
So we have and idea in the future, when comparing DVD ranks, of how each title moves.

Dukes of Hazard at #100. There IS justice.

Note to HD DVD studios, we don't want every crappy movie released during the year to appear on HD DVD (let blu-ray studios do that). Only release the BEST movies.

Quality over quantity.

Also, HD DVD studios should start a website where they REQUEST from HD DVD users what movies they want to see appear on the format. It makes perfect sense and eliminates the guess work. Make a certain number the "magic number" of unique requests to qualify for a pressing. Say, 75,000-100,000 unique requests qualifies a movie for an HD DVD pressing.

This should be a no-brainer.

That was the first thing I noticed as well. Studios should take note that a film has a higher probability of being purchased on HD-DVD than Blu-ray according to these top sellers list. Most of those films are on my list of next purchases, for sure.

2 things.

First I think that King Kong is actually higher on the list than 13 because it is packaged with the xbox 360 add on player and SHOULD count in the sales of the movie but I doubt it does on this list.

and second, I would've figured that casino would be on this list at least somewheres, and definitely ahead of Dukes of Hazzard! maybe since it was just released it hasnt sold that many, who knows but i am definitely getting casino with my best buy gift card.

Perhaps it does, but it was a low figure due to Amazon running out of 360 HD-DVD drives so quickly?

Yeah, it's too new to climb that fast.

Default Extras

The lack of extras on Kong would have also forced most movie lovers to go for the 3 disc SD DVD.

No surprise to Superman Returns on top, but I personally found the disc quite lacking. The PQ was no where near the best I've seen on HD-DVD.
