Though exact street date is still TBA, I'm opening a thread for the new 'Harry Potter Years 1-5' HD DVD box set Warner is brewing for the holiday season:

Well, finally there was a good announcement at the "Media Expo" today.
From what I have read, neither blu-ray nor HD-DVD even showed up at the event.
Thankfully Warner decided to makes it's own showing.
I'm centainly glad to finally hear something official about these movies being released.
I just saw the new movie at and IMAX 3d location. That was impressive.
I sure hope Warners gives the same extra special treatment with these movies that they've been giving to "300". -

Can you say "double dipping"?. A "limited edition gift set" for a movie series that is incomplete?? Ofcourse it's limited edition because in about a year and a half this set will be obsolete. I'm glad and all that Harry Potter is coming to HD but this is gonna be a $150 waste if I buy this pretty little box set and then end up buying the complete set down the line. Thanks but no thanks. I'll wait a few years and do this the right way.

Hmm, I wonder if it will include the proper title for the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone? If not, I'll have to wait for a UK or AUS release. I've always wanted to know, why the hell did Americans need it changed to 'Sorcerer's'??? Because I refuse to buy it like that and it's a shame because hd dvds are an absolute RIP-OFF in Australia!

What's your philosophical argument against sorcerers?
...I was about to say all that is different is the packaging, but apparently I'm wrong. If you search for the film in Wikipedia, it says:
Now that's mad!!Due to the film's title difference in America and the United Kingdom, all scenes that mention the stone had to be filmed twice, once with the actors saying "philosopher's" and the second with them saying "sorcerer's".
However, changing names for the US market is common enough:
- Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles because Americans don't know what a Ninja is
- The Madness of King George III - supposedly the III was dropped because American's wouldn't go to a sequel without having seen parts I and II

150 /5 = 30 bucks a movie. Damn i hope they release this individually, i already imported the U.K Version of Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire. Why the eff are they doing a box set, we still have 2 more movies due out. Not the least suprised, the books were released in boxsets from 5 on i think. Eh being the big fan i am, ide probably drop the 150 on it, not really lol, but i expect a huge price cut on it from one of the retailers.

Actually, that's not true. The series was called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the US, but it was changed to Hero Turtles in the UK. Why? Well, for some reason everything surrounding ninjas was a big no-no in the UK, up until the mid nineties. That means the word 'ninja' was banned, nunchuks had to be censored, that sort of thing.
One other example that comes to mind right now is in the videogame Soul Blade, released in '96 or so. One of the characters had nunchakus as his weapon, but for the UK market they were changed into a 'three section staff', which was basically the same thing, except with an extra stick instead of a chain. The game's sequels were released after the ban was apparently lifted, so they all retained the original nunchaku weapons.
