Default 'The Wedding Date' - High-Def Digest review

Peter's review of 'The Wedding Date' HD DVD is up, and it isn't pretty. He says the picture quality is among the worst he's seen on a new studio release, and the middling audio and extra are apparently no great shakes, either.

I watched The Wedding Date on HBO one day. It really is lame. Usually I like films like this. Notting Hill, 4 Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones Diary are all very good films. But this film is just awful. No chemistry between the leads; I kept wishing Jack and Karen would crash the wedding party. Also, the end credits are 10 minutes. They slowed down the credits to stretch out the running time of the film. Just awful. I wish Universal did not even bother with releasing this. There are so many other titles worth having instead.

How can High-Def Digest's review and DVD Authority's review differ so much? Were you both watching the same movie???

Yeah, that is a pretty big disparity. I will probably check it out as a rental (though it is not high-priority) just to form my own opinion.

I generally find with Universal if their SD DVD PQ quality is good, then the HD version will be also. They do need to take more time and care on one's where the original relase wasn't too good.

This review came from Digitaly Obsessed for the SD DVD

Image Transfer
One
Aspect Ratio 1.85:1 - Widescreen
Original Aspect Ratio yes
Anamorphic yes

Image Transfer Review: This recent theatrical release is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, and it's pretty ridiculous how bad things look, especially during the opening credit sequence. There's pixelation, grain, dirt, you name it, cluttering the screen during the intro, and edge enhancement is a bear throughout the presentation. The color scheme is well-rendered, though, with no bleeding or other discrepancies from image to image.

Image Transfer Grade: D+

Another terrible review from this website, your reputation as a credible review source is almost past the point of a joke.

DVD Authority gave this film a 4.5/5 for PQ, yet it gets a 1.5 from you? I'm not calling DVD Authority gospel, but that's a pretty big disparity.

Seems like someone is trying to turn people off HDDVD new releases?

I don't know what qualifications your reviewers have, but they don't seem to be doing a very good job at all. I honestly only glance at your reviews at all anymore to see how bad they are.

I think people should see it for themselves first before complaining about the review on this website.
I personaly have not seen it so I cant comment on the PQ....

But it is kind of wierd that other websites give it a much higher score than this one.

I agree, some reviews give bad feedback about the movie while the movie is actually good (in good shape ect.)

Poor review means no copy/paste to AVS? I guess some fanboys are to picky

If you want to see what bad high-def looks like, give this a rent -- otherwise, this is one to avoid.
I'm starting to feel the same about the review section of this site HD & BR !
Keep up the good work on the release dates though, its not a total loss

I saw this on Friday, and the PQ was not good. I remember thinking (especially during the scene on the plane in the beginning) that this was no better than a standard DVD, somtimes even worse. The movie was OK though, but I see now that I could just gotten the SD DVD instead, for a few bucks.

While I understand you disagreeing with the review because I know I have done the same in the past, I think attacking the reviewer like this is kind of stupid. Both formats are going to have bad reviews. It happens. I say for you to give this a rent to form your own opinion and then come back to discuss if the review was right or wrong.

Aside for this title, the July 10th Universal titles seem to be getting decent marks for PQ.
