Smile Star Trek Remastered on HD DVD

TOS-R HD-DVD To Preview At Comic Con - Includes New 60’s Behind Scenes Footage

Included on the new Comic-Con schedule for later this month is a panel just for Star Trek Remastered on HD DVD. The schedule does not list any of the TOS-R producers, and TrekMovie.com has confirmed that the Okudas and Dave Rossi cannot make it. However the panel does include Billy Blackburn [pictured] who appeared in 61 TOS episodes without any lines (as Mr. Hadley). Why? Because Blackburn carried a camera and got a lot of great shots around the TOS set. Some of this footage was seen in the ITV "After They Were Famous" episode on Trek (available on YouTube). The panel info for the TOS-R DVD says the disks will contain this "never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes 8mm footage."

The inclusion of the Blackburn footage is very welcome news and shows that CBS is taking these DVDs seriously. We have also previously reported that there will be other special features including a ‘pop up trivia’ kind of thing for many episodes. Of course this means that many Trekkies will have to ‘tripple dip’ on their TOS DVDs…but these are to be the first ones in HD.

Also attending the panel will be some execs from CBS as well as Rod Roddenberry. TrekMovie.com will of course also be there!

The TOS-R HD/DVD Season 1 Combo Set is due out in November/December of this Year (US, Japan…and maybe Europe).

Well, I will definitely pick this up, even though I spent a bundle for the original SD DVD set.

What? You're knocking the original series? As campy as they might have been there were some really, really good stories told.

I don't have any Star Trek movies, but I just might have to get some when this happens.

I planned to buy the regular DVD sets of the Star Trek but choosed not to... first I was glad I waited, then read this...

"the studio said the new release would feature a host of new GGI enhancements"

If they try to make the series look like it was made today, I'd rather skip it...

Sorry for my negative post, but I was looking forward to "the original series" a lot.

With Anchor Bay and UK Tartan going bluray I feel left out... Star Trek series can't compete with Zombie movies and Ingmar Bergman

People gripe about what Lucas did to the Original 3 Star Wars movies, but yet they'll drool over these enhancements? I laugh

Yeah, like the newer Star Treks were any better.

I made sure to pick up the old versions on SD with all the original cheesy-ass effects intact. The redone effects are nifty and all, but they really didn't change anything, and don't do much do improve the cheesiness inherent in the material. I kind of wish they would have just left the effects alone for the HD versions, even tho they had grains the size of basketballs. At least the live-action footage would look better. I'll try to pick up a set on HD-DVD anyway, except, knowing how Paramount treats Trek, they'll be asking $300 for it.

I didn't mean for this post to sound like I'm bagging on Trek. I'm actually a big fan. =)

I'm one of those gripers!

Lucas changed the stories, the pacing, the tone, the characters, etc... it wasn't just redone effects. Hell, if all Lucas did was spruce up the effects but made sure it was still the same movie, I'd be all over it. But alas, that is not what we got.

It's similar to Spielberg removing the guns from E.T. and replacing them with walkie-talkies. It just cuts off the movie's balls.

At the very least, the redone effects in Trek don't change anything. The episodes are still identical except for some fancier schmancier looking shots.

I'm going to get a bashing, but I like the idea of updating them with new CGI effects. It will helps bring it all together with the newer series and their effects.

Plus i'm a visusals whore and I have to admit I liked the updated versions of the original star wars...*hides*!!

But aslong as you can still get the unchanged editions, or they offer alternative none enhanced episodes on the discs, then alls good.

Unlike a certain Goerge Lucas until late!!
