Default 'The Watcher' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Peter's review of 'The Watcher.' Keanu Reeves as a serial killer didn't do it for him, and alas neither did this HD DVD. Both video and audio are passable, but neither is exceptional in any way, and with zero included supplements, this is one slim package.

I would have put PQ at 4, it seemed very good to me, but oh well.

It didn't do it for me either when I saw it years ago.

I thought Keanu Reeves was quite good as a bad guy in The Gift. I haven't seen The Watcher but I'm considering getting it once I get back home from holidays (just arrived in Finland a couple of hours ago). Still on the fence though because there are quite many interesting new and upcoming releases to choose from now.

I suggest you rent it first. Too risky for a blind buy. IMO.

There are no HD content rental services available in Japan so far and this is a U.S. release anyway. I'll have to decide to blind-buy or skip based on internet opinions, but that's what I do all the time anyway.

I see. Well think it over very carefully then.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Peter's reviews of Universal's catalog titles are a bit weird, almost as if he's judging them TOO hard. I mean, you can't expect ALL high def discs too look and sound as good as say Smokin' Aces or Constantine, but they still look pretty damn great. Personally, I was impressed with the video and audio in Field of Dreams (which scored low on this site's review). I was even impressed with the video and audio with The Jerk! I'll be interested to hear his reviews of Shaun of the Dead, What Dream's May Come, and Dante's Peak in the weeks to come, since all those look darn good on standard definition DVD. These 3 should deserve nothing less than a 4 out of 5 for video.

Not really on topic here but I went into my Local Target and i was very surprised when I saw they added this title to their slim selection. I have never seen this film so I have no opinion of it but I thought they would carry the Day & Date release of Black Snake Moan but instead they chose this film.

heh, I don't guess this one will be coming to Blu-ray very soon. Pretty mediocre but worth it for a single viewing to behold Keanu's hollow acting effort as a serial killa.
