Default 'Hustle & Flow' - High-Def Digest review

Kenneth's review of 'Hustle & Flow' is up. He loved the film, and says both the audio and the supplements on this HD DVD are quite solid. As for the video, unfortunately it seems this high-def transfer is particularly unforgiving with the film's 16mm source.

Damn what a bummer on the Video Quality. I have not seen this film and was looking forward to the HD release. I will still plan to see it but hearing about the bad video on such a new film takes some of the fun out of it.

Oh well.....that's 1 for 2 on my 'blind' buys. At least BSM was a showcase title. I'll give it a spin, if i don't like it, there is always ebay!

It's wierd that nobody notices the variable picture quality of film in a movie theater. I rarely see films that live up to the full PQ potential of 35mm film.

I just got this today, and while I haven't watched the whole thing, I skipped around, and was quite impressed by the PQ. Perhaps it was because I was expecting much worse from the PQ after reading the review.

It's very clear and detailed, yet with A LOT of grain. It reminded me of Grindhouse, but in a good way. Thumbs up to Paramount.

...Oh, and I got Black Snake Moan today too. That one's just gorgeous.

Yea, I know what you mean. I watched this as a rental and while there was indeed quite a bit of grain, at the same time it felt crisp with a good visual depth.

i watched the movie and there is alot of grain in some parts, but it is very clear and sharp colors and depth so it is not really destracting from the movie....the sound is top notch and the acting is some of the best...after watching i'm very glad to have added this to my collection....

i think peter was way off the mark in saying this "but unfortunately the video on 'Hustle & Flow' is one of the worst transfers I've seen. For those considering replacing their standard-def edition with this one, this HD DVD still offers an upgrade, but the trade-offs may not justify spending your hard-earned money all over again".

maybe should have said the following at the end but if you never bought on standard-def edition....this is the best version out there and a great movie worth every penny!!!

just my thoughts, look at the pics from his review you can see how sharp the colors are and the depth is great..just some film grain the film maker wanted in the look

u submitted this post in both the blu-ray foruma and the hd dvd . i think this is a great movie, it shows the hardships of being a pimp and having to make money that way, i think you should keep your opinions to yourself if all you are going to do is say how bad the movie is.
