I did take the time to read everything available on it. I'm aware that its a pornographic documentary, it says so explicitly on IMDB. Further, the two trailers available are just clips of someone lobbying against the films mixed with clips of women fondling their large breasts.

I'm also aware that you are offensive. You've already hijacked this guy's thread by declaring his film a sham (though you bought it, so you're a hypocrite or at the very least just a scumbag)

In any event, I'll stop replying to you before you hurt my high opinion of Canadians.

Hope these arrive soon and I hope you continue to release HD DVDs.

Consider me an impartial observer - I don't know CanadaPhil and though I am Canadian, I am not so nationalistic as to defend him on that basis alone - for all I know the guy's an asshole. Or not.

Anyway, at the risk of further damaging your entirely justified high opinion of Canadians, I have to say that there is a fairly huge difference between a "pornographic documentary" and a "documentary about pornography" - everything I've seen (including on imdb) indicates that this film falls into the latter category.

Though images of women fondling their breasts are certainly wonderful and may inspire a person to masturbate, it certainly doesn't qualify as pornography. I know this because I'm not really a big porno guy, but I am a big "women fondling their breasts" guy.

So it may be that CanadaPhil (who seems quite enthusiastic about the film from what I can tell) is a little annoyed that you seem to be dismissing it as pornography when it's a legitimate documentary.

Not that there's anything wrong with masturbating to legitimate documentaries! I'm sure you two will have that in common soon! So shake...well maybe don't shake hands, but make up already!

It is a pornographic documentary, I don't think that's in dispute. The archival footage is pornographic, whether it would qualify as triple x or not.

As for his enthusiasm, it seems strangely placed given the first two pages of this thread he attacks the film as not from a real studio and not of sufficient quality to qualify as the last HD DVD title. Which is fine, everyone has an opinion but it undermines the marketing of this film on their thread. The second post suggests that this whole endeavor is illegal and Toshiba will sue the filmmakers-- again, undermining it to those that would PREORDER a film.

But you're right, now that he has ordered a copy he seems very enthusiastic. So much so that he takes exception to my comment that its pornographic-- which it is. I did not blindly buy the title, I read about it and watched the trailers. My comment was merely that I probably won't have need to watch it more than once but that I support it whole-heartedly because I admire a filmmaker releasing something to a group of consumers that were kind of left out to dry by big money.

Anyway, he's clearly trolling for a fight and I'm just the first one to bite on this particular thread. It won't keep me up at night so no need to weigh in on who is right and who is wrong because its the internet and its probably what he's after. So lets just leave it a tie and one to one and stop tying up this filmmaker's thread.

I don't care if it is porn or a documentary... I will be honest in saying I only bought this to help keep the surge of indie HD DVD releases alive...since I was the one to lobby for the resurrection of the format for an indie film I would have felt like a hypocrite if I didn't support this release... so this is why I purchased it.

As for weather or not the movie is pornographic, by the legal definition of that term no it isn't. There is however allot of nudity. Smokers is not rated, but if we were to submit it there is no question it would receive an NC-17.

Weather or not you consider it pornographic doesn't matter one way or the other. I made it to entertain, and if you are entertained when you watch it then I have done my job. I just hope we can bring more titles to the format and other filmmakers do the same.

I'll be keeping you guys up to date every step of the way! Just remember tomorrow is your last chance to change a credit. We are adding the final Thanks section Friday, so it is set in stone after that. Recording my Director's/HD DVD commentary next week while the plant is doing their part. The commentaries will be available for download on the site. More tracks with cast and crew will come, but this one is mainly focused on why I made the movie, why HD DVD and why it is presented the way it is. You should start getting the soundtrack EP's late next week. The digital copies of the movie will be sent as we prep the discs for shipping. If you have Tivo or a few other VOD services a very heavily edited TV-14 rated version will pop up late July or early August. Instead of just cutting the nudity, which would turn it into a short film, I did the editing myself and tried to make it funny. If you happen to catch it let me know what you thought.
