It does sound like there could have been a misunderstanding. Blu-ray is an HD DVD to a lot of people.

That is always a possibility that you can never discount. That said I have just had an abrupt email from 4dvd (in response to my latest are these
,
, or both?) saying that they have told me before that these films will be released on
and that is what is going to happen. I guess I have been told.

"Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries regarding HD DVDs.
We have informed you many times that Trainspotting and Shallow Grave will be released on HD DVD but unfortunately, we have no details whether this is the release that was cancelled in June.
We do feel that we have clearly stated Channel 4's position and that we have done our best to assist you. Therefore, we regret that we are unable to enter into any further correspondence on this subject.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact us here at Channel 4 and for your interest in our programming.
Regards,
Penny Watson
Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries"
The above is my latest (and probably last) communication from 4dvd for a while on this subject. While they are saying that they are not going to enter into any more discussion on the subject (i.e. enough is enough), once again they are not exactly beating around the bush about saying that these titles will be released on
. No comments about
though and seem to be unsure about whether this is the earlier cancelled release.

Borders have spent the day checking out for me whether or not this will be on HD DVD or Blu-ray and have just come back to confirm that it will be on Blu-ray after all.
Likewise I had this email from dvdsource.co.uk:
"Hello,
It looks as though the HD version has been pulled and only a Blu-Ray version will be available, but we'll let you know as soon as this is confirmed.
Best regards,
Leigh."
Well that looks like that then. The only mystery that remains is why on Earth are 4dvd insisting that there will be an HD DVD release?
My last two emails specifically asked if this was HD DVD, Blu-ray, or both?
To mistake HD DVD for Blu-ray is one thing but to repeatedly keep doing it is something else.... Not good.

Why don't you just wait? We'll see soon enough. If you continue to pester them, they might cancel the release just to spite you.

Trainspotting and Shallow Grave canceled by DVDSource
I just received the following email from DVDSource.co.uk:
Hello,
I also received a similar one for my Shallow Grave order with them.
We are sorry, but the title you have on order "Trainspotting [HD-DVD Video Disc]" has become unavailable.
Sometimes titles go out of print and never come back into stock or are not released as planned and we have no way of knowing in advance.
Apologies for any disappointment and we hope to see you again soon.
Best regards,
The DVDSource Team.

Following my latest enquiry and having spoken to 4dvd's distributors, Borders have also now changed their listing to
.
Worth noting though is that unlike 4dvd, they actually have an enthusiastic and helpful Customer Service who will actually find things out for you without any aggro. Just before changing this listing, they did tell me that 4dvd had told them and some other retailers it was an
yet other retailers were given the
from Day One.
So there we have it, all retailers are now saying it's a
while 4dvd's last word on the subject is that there will be an
release.
All of which raises an obvious question...

Limey can post the email of the original person you talked to at 4dvd?
Why are people so incompetent?

I am afraid Arkadin is probably right on the mustard with his assessment. Unless there are some previously pressed and so far unreleased discs knocking around, this is almost certainly it.
drcrawn, you are welcome to give 4dvd another go. The person I originally spoke to and on subsequent occasions has been Sally Smith. She does not have a specific email though but rather is available (along with the others) on the generic email which is:
ViewerEnquiries@Channel4.co.uk
Mark it for the attention of - Channel4 VE Support
Frankly I cannot be assed to contact them again at this moment, although from the tone of the last email the feeling is mutual!
