Default RE imports better than Blu?

Specifically Japanese Biohazard, German RE Apocalypse and Extinction. Are they all superior to the Blu releases? The Blu trilogy can be had for MUCH cheaper, but I guess I'd pay for better audio/video if there was any.

Thanks. I had read those and I think all of them on this forum, also HiDefDigest did not review the RE 1 from Japan or RE 3. I was hoping someone might have both versions to compare. Seems like 1 and 3 are better on HD and 2 is better on Blu.

keep in mind that the second one ( Apocalypse ) on HD DVD is the extended version.it is 4 minutes longer than the BD disc that we have here domestically.

I have all three sitting at home waiting to be watched . Just haven't had the time to do the Resident Evil marathon night, probs this week sometime though...Looking at the reviews, I'm not too worried about the "3 star" video quality, I have been impressed by quite a few on the same level so I'm stoked .

I don't know about the Resident Evil trilogy - I have them on and very pleased with them, but have never seen the version.

But, I can vouch for Crank - the VC-1 PQ is noticeably superior to the mpeg2 , and the DTS-HD High Resolution audio matches the PCM BD audio on my system. I sold my version.

+1 Another vote for Crank. I gave my blu copy to my dad and kept the HD DVD.

Finally ordered the Japanese RE:1 and German RE:3 from xploited. So far I'm very impressed with the Japanese RE:1 considering the so-so reviews of the German release. Another great Japanese import. PQ is pretty good, certainly nothing to complain about. I think the biggest issues is the PQ is inconsistant. One shot will be sharp with lots of detail and the very next will be soft.

AQ is very good, IMO. Bass is very strong, vocals are directional, LOTS of surround usage. I would definitely consider it demo audio. The only thing that could be better is more depth. This soundtrack will definitely make you jump!

I highly recommend this Japanese release, as I always do. Japanese releases always seem top notch. Since xploited will be closing up soon, get it while you can.

Thanks for the suggestions, perhaps I should change the thread to Resident Evil imports better than Blu. RE = Resident Evil.

Good choices. I didn't go with the Japanese RE 1 though. I stuck with the German releases on 1-3 (bought from a forum member). You should get Crank too. Fuckin awesome.

Crank was the first import I bought. I just wondered about the Resident Evil imports.

Watching 3 right now. Not much of an improvement over HD-Lite Charter HD On-Demand. I'm only getting the "core" for audio so it's not fair to judge that. I'll have my new receiver in a couple weeks, hopefully. By the PQ alone, I should have just got the US Blu for much less $$$. The whole picture just doesn't look "real", almost cartoony. The blown out contrast is annoying, but I know it's the movie and not the transfer.

You are right about that, which is a good thing because they are so expensive. I was very impressed also with the Japanese Resident Evil, particularly the AQ.
