Default French Cartoons

Has anyone seen/ordered any of these HD's?

Astérix et les vikings [HD DVD]
http://www.amazon.fr/Astérix-vikings..._sbs_d_title_3

Coffret intégrale gendarme [HD DVD]
http://www.amazon.fr/Coffret-int%C3%...331085-6530624

Kirikou et les betes sauvages [HD DVD]
http://www.amazon.fr/Kirikou-betes-s...sbs_d_title_17

I was just looking through Amazon.fr and saw these three, they look really interesting but i somewhat doubt any English audio/subtitle. Has anyone seen these for themselves that can shed some light on quality and english-ability?

The first has English (audio, I think), and the latter two are French languange only. Also, I don't believe Gendarmes is animation (but rather 1960's French B movies) but the cover does create the impression that it is.

Thanks, I might have to look into the first one then.

I scoured the web and did find the only match to Gendarmes as a late 60's comedy type show/movie.

Asterix is very English friendly. It has English subs for the French audio track and also has an English dub. It's not a bad movie either. I have Kirikou as well but haven't watched it yet. No English subs or audio on that one.

I just picked up Les Triplettes de Belleville from a user here, so I am excited to see that. I noticed in the review they did here that it has no English but it mainly music and physical humor so I think I will enjoy it alot.

Now I am thinking I've got to pick up Astérix et les vikings if I can find it for less then $20 after watching about 7 minutes of it on dailymotion. It was all in French but it looks like a fun cartoon.

Although I'm not too sure about Kirikou et les betes sauvages, its looks a little weird. Honestly it looks a little racist maybe, can't really describe it... But also looking at it I don't see how it could really benefit from HD as the animation is a little scrappy, kind of looks like a newer South Park.

Les Triplettes is a great movie, one of the best animated ones coming from Europe in a long time: you did good buying it.. Don't worry about the language: the spoken part is minimal and does not detract from the enjoyment of the movie even if you do not understand it.

Asterix is great too (a bit on the slow side if you want) with a fairly good English soundtrack.

Take a look at this one too:

http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_ss_w?_...ssance&x=0&y=0
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386741/

Go for the German version because the French one is without English soundtrack or subtitles

I agree it is a bit on the slow side. I am 99% sure I have the french version and it has English audio at the very least. Not sure on subtitles.

Yea man, I checked out about 10 minutes worth on youtube, didn't wanna ruin too much, and it looked really interesting. Can't wait to get it.

Yea I have Renaissance, I personally really really like it but others I have shown it to have problems with their eyes while watching it. But yea, I'm a big Daniel Craig fan so I especially enjoyed it.

Yea, I will count on the fact that it does when I go to buy it in a couple weeks. As long at the English is decent I will be happy, but I will probably stick to subtitles if they are available.

I find that English subtitles are much more enjoyable when watching a foreign movie or any movie in non-English. I hate the dubbed look, out of sync speach, and the voices are normally pretty annoying so I stick to subs.

Can anyone completely confirm the English audio/subs on Asterix?

Thanks guys for all the info.

Happened to snag Asterix from 'christophles' in a French import for $26 . I am excited to watch it in the 2-4 weeks I should receive it in.
