Havn't pre-ordered them yet either since it's quite a while before they're released. Nice to know that someone else is looking forward to these.

Looking at your HD DVD list I see that you don't have Unfair - The Special or Keitai Keiji The Movie, are you skipping those?

I just submitted them do DVDAF I'd submit more Japanese HD-DVDs but I can't always find large enough cover art.

Where can I look for some more information about the problem with La Mome? I bought mine from Xploited and seem to be having problems as well. I have an LG internal pc drive.

That was me. Then I received an e-mail from Amazon France telling me about defective copies of this disc with a link to the local Toshiba rep, where you can send your copy for replacement. I went there, filled out their questionnaire and, after some back-and-forth (they wanted to make sure my disc would not play on Toshiba players, so I tested mine at Circuit City), they authorized me to return the disc and sent me a new copy that plays perfectly on my LG drive.

I was told that Microsoft had turned out a defective first batch of this film's HD-DVD release. The Amazon.fr notice seems to have been sent to whomever bought the first edition, as I had not contacted them about the problem I was having with it.

Please read this thread for some additional information:
La Môme (The Passionate Life of Edith Piaf) (French import)

See also this post if you didn't already:

CochiseGuy's copy from Xploited started working in his player after some cleaning, so the problem might be related to extraneous residue.

I have the limited edition package of La Mome (had it pre-ordered from Amazon France). It plays OK in my HD-XF2 (Japan equivalent of HD-A2). I got an LG internal PC drive since then as well (LG GGW-20N). I'll give my La Mome disc a try in the LG as well and will report back with my findings here.

Nice cover pics for Hatsukoi and Tegami! Yeah, I'm always looking forward to new Japanese movie releases on HD (as well as non-Japanese). I like to plan my pre-orders only about 1 month in advance to keep better track of them so I usually put in a bunch of orders at the end of each month for the next month.

So far I haven't picked up Unfair - The Special or Keitai Keiji The Movie. I haven't seen any of the Unfair TV series or the movie so I wasn't quite sure if the Special would work as a stand-alone viewing experience. I would pick it up if I ever found a good price on it though.

As for "Keitai Keiji The Movie", I don't know much about the movie itself and the cover images made it look like it's aimed for a younger audience. Do you happen to have them? Would be interested in your impressions if you do! I often look at them in the B&M stores and will probably pick up one day when I have no other stuff to buy

About GAGA's announcing many releases now, I don't know if it's been mentioned before here but Gaga is releasing Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer on HD DVD April 4th.

I watched Vexille last night and enjoyed it very much. It has a lot of high adrenalin action sequences with good music and I was surprised to find one music track on the movie from one my earlier favorite bands: "Host of Seraphim" by "Dead Can Dance". I bought all the CDs by them earlier on when they were still active and this song is from their best era.

I'll write my impressions together with some screenshots to the separate thread sometime soon, hopefully I have time for it tonight. Takes some time to get those screenshots as it's not really easy with all SW playback packages blocking the screenshot function under "normal playback circumstances".

I didn't know about Perfume being released by Gaga on HD but it makes sense since the movie seems to be relatively popular in Japan. I've seen the DVD in a lot of shops with good visibility here. I already have the German release myself but I'll list this version as well in "Titles Available for Order".

That's really great and surprising! Must buy for me with English subs. I hope they were not mistaken... It would make sense for DFW to put those subs in if they want to sell those discs to our large import crowd

Keep in mind that the theatrical cut is better than the extended cut, which has only been extended by padding out scenes with extra shots that drag the pacing out interminably. So if the specs come back that it's the theatrical cut, no one should feel too disappointed.

Yeah a must buy IF it has subs, i mean more european companies should be adding subs esp if putting out on HD, i mean say a country like poland, how many sales is possible if they add subs, i would guess at least double from exporters...
