I've only used them once before (ages ago), so can't vouch for how good they are now (they are a fairly large chain, though, with stores in many European countries).
I've ordered Reservoir Dogs from the now (€21.49 including shipping to Norway), I'll post back when I receive it.
I was trying to add Free Record Shop as another source for those upcoming new Dutch releases now, but it seems those upcoming 27-Nov releases are not listed there anymore now? I checked some of them there still yesterday, they had the old release date shown but were otherwise OK...

It would be great if there was some technical solution to use user supplied subtitle data somehow, as then it wouldn't be up to the distributors to make them available...

I'm interested in Pacchigi! as well, waiting for Shibuya's Tsutaya shop to lower the price of the 2nd hand copy they have there Last I checked it was 3600 yen... The language is going to be a challenge though as I understand it uses a mixture of Japanese and Korean languages. I guess Japanese dub is included for the Korean parts which may make it understandable enough for me, though it won't be as authentic as it should be then...
I was also interested in Pacchigi! so I ordered the HD DVD from YesAsia and I should recieve it early next week. I watched The Yellow Handkerchief of Happiness on HD recently and it was a very enjoyable "road movie". Also both Yoji Yamada's movies and Ken Takakura are favourites. Did you watch any of Yoji Yamada's "Tora-san" movies? If they are released on HD in Japan I will get them, not all 50 or so though!
Apparently there's an US Yellow Handkerchief re-make coming next year...

Ugh, baka shiraijin. I wish they would just give the original to us. I HATE remakes. If it's Dreamworks I'm not surprised as they remake almost everything unless they can't like with GOTS2.

I haven't actually watched any "Tora-san" movies but I visited this Tora-san museum when it was brand new and bought a Tora-san T-shirt there
http://www.tokyo-cci.or.jp/sangyokanko/english/055.html

They should release those 50 movies as a nice box-set! That would be impressive...

I've yet to watch The Yellow Handkerchief though I have the HD DVD in my collection. I'll try to watch it soon.

Looking forward to those 3 Yôji Yamada HD DVDs around 28th too. I'll try to post some photos and initial impressions when I've received them.

Discshop.fi won't, but I think filmifriikki.fi will (a bit hard to search and navigate for non-Finnish readers, but you can write)? If they do, a walk-through on how to set up an account would be appreciated (and of course links when titles are put up the site).
I did some research on this yesterday, and couldn't find any other online shops than filmifriikki.fi that would sell HD DVDs and ship internationally. They are quite an old shop (since '93) and well known in Finland so I believe they are reliable. I tried to prepare instructions on how to order from filmifriikki but I ran into a couple of problems when trying to order from there to Japan. I sent them a couple of e-mails about that. I guess they don't get much international orders currently... I'll provide the instructions once the ordering from there to international addresses works properly. It seems they are planning to open an English language version of their online shop sometime in the near future as well, once that happens ordering from there should be easy for all

Also got some information regarding the upcoming Finnish HD DVD releases (Ganes, 3:10 to Yuma, Death Proof, Planet Terror) via e-mail to FS-Film's DVD Q&A e-mail address. Those titles are targeted to be released in 1st quarter of 2008, though specific release dates or other details are not known yet. Ganes (Finnish movie) should definitely have English subtitles available.

Official home page of Ganes movie including trailer:

It seems that UK release of Pan's Labyrinth is getting more and more delay. Just got an e-mail from Amazon UK stating that:
=================
Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we
need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

Doug Jones (Actor), et al "Pan's Labyrinth [HD DVD] [2006]" [HD DVD]
Estimated arrival date: 17/12/07 - 19/12/07
=================

New estimated ship date is 10th of December. I'll probably cancel and switch to U.S. release as this has been delayed so many times already... The thinner case of the U.S. release would be better as well.

Upcoming Italian releases in Mondo Home Entertainment's online shop:

http://mondohe.com/customer/search.p...bstring=HD+DVD

It seems MHE shop is shipping outside of Italy too. I'll list these new titles with them as source.

From their page:

Quote:
Dear customer, we would like to inform you that Mondo shipment and delivery
service is now available. From today you can buy and get your items also
outside Italy. We would like to remind you that the shipment charge varies
according to the different states and that payment is only by credit cards.

Notice:
Payment must be done by credit card for purchases outside Italy.
Shiping cost will then depend on actual place of destination and weight of purchase.
Final Amount (calculated automatically) may then be determined upon completion
of order and confermation.

Kind regards

Mondo Home Entertainment
www.mondohe.it
EDIT: Their shipping is the most expensive I've seen so far.
This was the only shipping option to Japan, and the shipping cost is for one disc order: Corriere espresso (€ 44,00).

I didn't make the order as the shipping was just too much...

New titles to be added (tomorrow, as no time right now):

For a Few Dollars More (Per qualche dollaro in più) (Italian release) (5-Dec)
mondohe.com $37.67 (€25.40)
Warning: No English audio/subtitles? Italian only. TBC

My Name is Nobody (Il mio nome è Nessuno) (Italian release) (5-Dec)
mondohe.com $37.67 (€25.40)
Warning: According to MHE, no English audio/subtitles. Italian only.

In the Land of Women (Italian release) (5-Dec)
mondohe.com $36.93 (€24.90)

Hairspray (2007) (Italian release) (12-Dec)
mondohe.com $36.93 (€24.90)

Mondo Home Entertainment seems to do VAT reduction but I couldn't calculate it for these titles as I don't know how they calculate it. Would order something from there by myself if it weren't for the huge shipping cost.

Would be interesting to hear about PQ on Babel as it is the first GAGA release. I have the U.S. release of that one already, and I liked the movie quite a lot.
Well I watched the GAGA's release of Babel recently. It has a grainy picture but I thought the PQ was as good as it can be on this type of movie. Of course the TrueHD track is nice to have.
The extras are Japanese Teaser, Trailer and 3 TV Spots, Production Note, Cast & Staff Profile and Bookmark. Unfortunatly the trailers are in SD only. No English subs but no less than 4 different types of Japanese!
Included is a "Dolby TrueHD Handy Manual" and a "TrueHD Trading Card".
Look forward to GAGA's next release March Of The Penguins, it should have excellent PQ/AQ.

Thanks for the update! If I remember right, the U.S. release of Babel had basically no extras on it. Been a while since I watched it. Anyway, with that movie I really needed those English subs, I can't read Japanese well enough to manage well with Japanese subs and if I try, I have to focus on reading the subs way too much. I manage better with Japanese audio tracks but it's not nice to watch movies with dubbed tracks.
