Default Silent Hill Import

What did you think of this movie? I actually enjoyed it, some freaky moments for sure. Just got in my import stock, and this title looks great. Some grain in areas, but it was filmed like that. The sounds is good too, things are creaking and cracking in the background like crazy Going to checkout Tomb Raider 2 and Underworld tonight. Later

my old roommate bought it last year when it came out. I personally thought the movie was crap... I just didn't like it at all. Good to hear though that the hd transfer is good. I'm waiting on both my copies of underworld to get here

Lucky you got those releases already in stock. In Switzerland and even in Germany they got big delivery problems, only some distributors like amazon.de already have received part of there orders. All shops I know here in Switzerland don't have those releases yet, but should receive it by the end of this week.

I've ordered:
- Silent Hill
- Underworld - Extended Cut
- 12 Monkeys (Didn't pick up the US-Release)

I watched this last night and I was also impressed especially with the sound. I didn't remember it had so good music in some parts PQ was also very sharp and detailed for the most part.

There were a couple of scenes that didn't look so great in my setup though. A couple of the very darkest scenes had some kind of shadow posterization, i.e. some shadow details kind of "melted". That could possibly be related to my TV as well I guess, but I don't see that with most other titles. Also some of the "real world" scenes had a bit too oversaturated colors.

Anyway, overall it looked pretty good and those few problems could be related to the original master or to my setup as well. I have an SD DVD release of this one as well somewhere, but I don't remember how it looked as I haven't watched it in a long time.

As a movie I like especially the last half an hour and the beginning. I don't like some of the strange creature scenes so much as they feel kind of separate from the main story and they didn't really have that much impact for me. Anyway, it's an interesting horror movie and I think it's a pretty good release overall. I also liked the covers

I actually liked this film quite a bit. I thought the art direction was top notch and really liked the special effects. There have really only ever been 2 movies I enjoyed that were made from videogames and they are REsident Evil and Silent Hill. There have been so many bad videogame movies that it really makes me appreciate a good one that much more. Uwe Boll alone has made like 7 of them that were absolutely horrid.

Overall I thought it had a good script and this is where alot of videogame films really stumble. I also thought it had a great cast and that is usually the 2nd place that videogame films stumble. Add on incredibly awsome art direction, top notch special effects and some very creepy sound effects and you have a film that I really enjoyed and again being that it was a videogame film it just makes me enjoy it that much more because I now go into these kinds of films expecting them to be bad. That scene where the girl has her skin ripped entirely off of her body and then thrown at the two women as they are entering the church was pretty wicked stuff. That is a scene that I will never forget.

I am planning on ordering this soon for HD DVD.

By the way speaking of bad videogame films did you guys know tha Uwe Boll is back at it again and is making Alone in the Dark 2 next year, lol. ALONE IN THE DARK 2, as if the first one wasnt bad enough and its currently at #45 on the worst films of all time on IMDB. Its utterly mind boggling that they would decide to make a sequel to that film. Well that is Uwe for ya.

It's rumored that the reason Uwe Boll keeps making movies is that his investors are laundering money for organized crime. They don't care how bad his movie are, or whether they turn a profit.

I don't know whether that's true, but I can't think of any other possible explanation for his career.

An excellent review of this title was just released by DVD Times: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=65917

Ever since I first saw Sony's release, I always felt that, had exactly the same master been afforded a higher bit rate or run through a modern codec, the results would have been phenomenal. Luckily, German distributor Concorde Home Entertainment has heard my pleas, and the results are indeed phenomenal.

Released simultaneously on both HD DVD and Blu-ray, the German release features a VC1 encode of what appears to be exactly the same master that Sony used for their earlier release (the only difference being the substitution, on this version, of the Focus Features logo, for the TriStar logo found at the start of Sony's release). It's presented accurately in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1, and encoded at 1080p. It is a beautiful transfer from start to finish, every bit as razor sharp in terms of detail as its Sony counterpart, while eliminating the occasionally nasty compression artefacts. The reproduction of the grain is absolutely magnificent, and the colours, which are rich to the point of oversaturation in the sequences taking place outside Silent Hill, and grey and dreary in the ones set inside it, accurately reproduce the film's theatrical presentation.

This is one of the best transfers I have ever seen (falling just shy of my top five of Open Season, King Kong, Corpse Bride, Casino Royale and The Descent), and I urge readers who already own Sony's version to strongly consider replacing their copies with this new release.
