Default The Motorcycle Diaries (UK import)

Why did it take me 4 years to finally watch this flick? Oh, yeah, it wasn't on HD before!

One of my latest import purchases, and it is a doosy!

The Motorcycle Diaries is the tell of two best friends who set out on a cross country journey of medicine and self discovery. The two main characters are Ernesto "Che" Guevara and Alberto Granado, friends and medical student/doctors.

Early on, their bickering, chase for tail is fun and amusing, and is played as if they were two horny teenage boys. They're not, Granado had already received his M.D. and Guevara was a few classes short of receiving his M.D.

It's when it gets to the second half of the flick, and the seeds of revolution become planted in Che's head that we get to see what will eventually set him off on his quest for revolution.

When the film was initially released, it received some flack, that it "romanticized" Che, but that's not really possible since his revolutionary activities didn't begin until almost 15 years after Diaries. Some people took that, and ran with it.

Personally, I don't know what to think of Che Guevara, in my ignorance, I still don't know too much about him to make an informed decision. As entertainment, the film rocks, and shows you another side of the world that you've probably never seen. The whole flick was shot on location in various South American countries, Argentina, Chile, Colombia Venezuela, and Peru.

I just realized I went kind of long on the film, but not enough on the specs. Pardon moi.

The HD DVD is presented in a 1.85:1 with DTS HD sound (MA) I believe, and is in Spanish w/ optional English subtitles. I watched all in Spanish, since I can understand it without the subs. I scored my copy from Ebay for about 17$ shipped, and it's one of my most treasured imports, considering I just watched yesterday for the first time EVER!!!!
