Default Bleak House (UK - BBC) impressions and pics

I got Bleak House yesterday from Amazon UK.

I took some case pics:

It's a VC1 encode at OAR 1.78 : 1 and sound is LPCM stereo.

WinDVD9 reports:

Quote:
Video Stream:
Type: VC1
Bitrate: 24.999 Mbps
Framerate: 29.970 Hz
Resolution: 1920x1080
Aspect ratio: 16x9

Audio Stream:
Type: Linear PCM
Bitrate: 1536 Kbps
Number of main channels: 2
LFE Channel: None
Sampling Frequency: 48khz
Bits Per Sample: 16
The level of detail is great in some of the shots. I watched only 20 minutes from the beginning so far. It seems very interesting for fans of British drama.

Thanks for the impressions, kannisto. I've been kicking around the idea of picking this one up and it seems like as soon as I get the money, I'm going to have to buy it.

Not even 5.1 sound? That's disappointing...I suppose it is pretty dialogue heavy, but still...thanks for the impressions Kannisto. I think I'll have to buy it as my Mom really liked it.

I ordered it anyway, 2 channel sound or not! I'll post my impressions when it arrives.

I ordered this last night as well. It's a dialogue movie so the lack of lossless/DD+ was not a deal breaker for me, as this is a very highly rated miniseries.

I also received it and have spot checked the discs. The picture quality is excellent (4.5/5.0). Also received Robin Hood Season 1, it's picture quality is very close to Bleak House.

Speaking of Robin Hood Season 1, what vendors are people using for this one?

I've had it on order with amazon.de for almost a month and just got a message about delivery window being as far out as May 4.

(or it may be the T2 steelbook edition that I ordered with it that is pushing out the date, I can't tell which... either way it doesn't bode well...)

I don't think Germany is the best place to order UK releases (like Robin Hood Season 1), at least the prices have seemed high when I've seen these BBC releases there. I'd check and compare the prices in www.amazon.co.uk, www.sendit.com and www.blahdvd.com.

I just ordered Hotel Babylon: Series 1 (HD DVD) from www.sendit.com. Apparently it's not in stock but they'll order it from some supplier first. Amazon UK hasn't had that one available for order for some reason. This is the first time I'm trying sendit.com out properly (I tried once before but the disc I ordered then never came out). They don't remove VAT but their prices are sometimes a bit below Amazon UK's and their shipping to Japan is cheap, 1.75 GBP for this order.

I'm planning on picking up Robin Hood and Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky sometime in the near future too.

Wow, by coincidence I just ordered Hotel Babylon yesterday from Sendit as well. Only place that has it AFAIK, but the price and shipping (about $60 total) isn't bad at all. I'm putting Robin Hood on my To Get list and crossing my fingers that those five film 4 movies coming out in just two weeks. It would be just horrible to see those great films canceled, and hopefully a lot of preorders have ensured that they do make it out (if that's what it took).

www.dvd.co.uk apparently have hotel babylon in stock, or at least stock available, not sure what the difference is.

Good to know, thanks. I checked it out, and it's about $5 more with shipping, so I'll stick with my original order (even though they have it in stock).

It seems Hotel Babylon is possible to get through sendit.com, the status in my order has changed to "Acquired from Stock". Previously it seemed unclear if/when they could possibly get it. I suppose they will ship mine soon now.
