Default My Mini Saw III Review

Just got my Dutch import of Saw 3 yesterday. First off it has a great cover

Some of the other Dutch imports are being reported as MPEG 2 encodes

This is a VC-1 Encode with DD+ and DTS-HD

Watching on 40" 1080p Samsung LCD w HD-A30 player, Onkyo 605 and Polk Audio 5.1 Speakers

Picture Looks pretty good for a low budget horror flick. The opening bathroom scene with Detective Mathews shows off a high level of detail. Very sharp picture. Really makes the sets more discusting. Contrast looks really nice, blacks are very deep while still allowing the fine details come out. I didnot notice any edge enhancement. As you would expect there is some grain that is somewhat noticeable in some scenes. I cant knock it for that because it does lend a more gritty look to the film, and there isnt any noticable noise from compression. I did notice some speckles every now and then that you wouldnt expect from a new movie but wasnt really enough to complain about

Video: 4/5

Audio sounds pretty good. Obviously Im listening to the core 1.5mbps DTS track. Its pretty heavy on the front speakers but the rear speakers get a nice amount of discreat sound. In the ice chamber you can hear the sprayers going off around you as well as the pig remains in the following scene.

Audio: 4/5

Didnt go through the extras yet but it seems like most of the extras are there from the Single Disk.

Extras: 3/5

It does come in a standard thickness HD-DVD keepcase

This seems to be the R rated as it is 109 minutes and my current Unrated DVD lists 113 minutes as the running time. I have not seen the Directors cut so Im not sure on the running time.

Ordered from xploitedcinema.com. As always his shipping and customer service is top notch. $34.99 + $2.88 first class shipping.

Overall(Not an average):4.5/5 RECOMMENDED

If you are a fan of the SAW movies you will not be dissapointed

Thanks for the review..Im not a fan of this one, the plot was weak to me.
But once the first two are released then I will definitly get those. The 2nd one has one of the most intense and craziest plot twists ever IMO.

Thanks for the review, I'm a big fan of the Saw movies so this is a must buy. Do you know when the other Saws will be available on HD DVD, I could not find them on Xploited Cinema?

I think in February. February 8th, alongside the Deathproof release?

Thanks for the review... I should receive mine withing a couple days. Looking forward to this one.

And according to my packaging, the Directors Cut is 121 mins long... so this one seems to have left some stuff out

Newly Added! SAW II - March 2008 (Tentative)

Seems like Saw 1 has a date set while Saw II is still up in the air.
