Here is a link to version 1.3 rollback firmware:
http://cid-6948f2460bdd190c.skydrive...20rollback.iso You can rollback to version 1.3, test the HDMI output, and then install version 4.0 afterwards. The downloaded file is an iso file and needs to be burned to a CD as an image (as opposed to copying the file to the CD). The firmware downgrade is easy to do "in the blind": 1) Turn on the A30 and wait until it has started up 2) Pop in the CD 3) When it shows VER UP on the display you press OK once 4) It will still show VER UP for awhile, and then the downgrade will start 5) It will go through STEP 1/4 until STEP 4/4 and then shut down automatically. Be aware that STEP 4/4 takes quite a long time, sometimes up to 25 minutes |

do you think this rollback will help? I will try it when I get home.

I know of a guy that had problems with the sound on his player, and for him it helped rolling back the firmware. Even when he reinstalled version 4.0 afterwards, it still worked as it should.
I don't know if it will have any impact on your problem, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try. |

Toshiba customer support told me that we should not update the firmware unless you have problem. What do you think about that?

Well, you DO have a problem.
But it is of course up to you. If you don't want to risk running the firmware updates, then don't do it. |

Sorry I was unclear.
They said if you had 1.3 and you did not have any problem so don't upgrade to 4.0. I will definitely rollback to 1.3 as your advised and see if that solve the problem. It was so frustrated with this HDMI problem. If I had to watch with component cable that only delivers 1080i so what is the point of having HD DVD player right? |

Yes, you're right. No point in having a HD DVD player if the HDMI doesn't work. If you use component, you will not get upscaled most of the SD DVD due to some copy restrictions.
If it works well on firmware version 1.3, then maybe there is no need to upgrade to 4.0. |

Did you remember to burn it as an image? It sounds like you just copied the iso file to a CD.

You are right. How do I burn it as an image?

You can use this free software:
The Official ImgBurn Website Use the choice 'Write image file to disc' |

I got the rollback to 1.30 version now but the HDMI still doesn't work.
I connected only HDMI cable, changed the input of tv to hdmi channel, turned off TV and HD player, unpluged TV for 1 minute, pluged it back in, turned on TV, turned on the player. It still shows black screen on TV. The display on the player says "1080i". I connected the component cable and it worked. It showed the set up menu of the player. I had to set up the time and date. Does that mean the HDMI port of my HD doesn't work anymore? Do you have any other suggestion?...thank you |

The only thing more I can think of is to unplug the player and leave it off for about 2 hours. I know it sounds doubtful, but it has actually helped a few people with problems.
