Default Problem with my a-30

Hi, I updated to firmware 4 but have notice that every movie I play it's zoomed in, when the hd dvd logo starts up at the beginning its cut off on the right corner and when the opening credits play they're cut off too. I've tried playing with the settings but have had no luck, I've tried reloading the FW update but it says it's already updated. Anybody know what else I could do?

To me it sounds like your TV's zoom(wide, normal, etc.) settings are tampered with...

Or maybe you have the A30's output resolution set to up to 1080p24hz and your TV can't handle that correctly?

It was the tv settings I guess the kid was playing with the remote lol. I knew it was going to be something simple but just couldn't figure it out. Thanks for the help.

Just for info . . .
If the A30 is set for "up to 1080p/24fps" and the TV cannot handle it, the player backs off to a resolution the TV can support during the handshake.

Not according to this post in AVForums:

Any ideas?, I think I have to force a resolution change but I can't see how I can do it blind....
It was for an EP30, but that's the same player as the A30. I helped him do a factory reset on the player by pressing Display, 7, 0, 1, Display on the remote.

Yeah, I didn't think HD DVD players would "back off to a resolution the TV can support during the handshake". Blu-ray players will do that if set to "Auto" for resolution, but HD players never had that Auto feature. My old TV was only 1080i, and if I set the player to 1080p all I would get was a blank screen. I didn't know about the factory reset code; I always kept a composite video cable (yellow RCA) connected so I could switch the TV to that input and set the resolution down.

I think maybe it depends on which TV you have. I don't have my EP30 anymore, but as far as I can remember it didn't let me choose resolutions that my TV didn't support.

I posted this because I leave my A30 set for "up to 1080p/24" and although my TV hdmi input does support 1080p, it does not support 24fps - the player backs off accordingly (the player setting is NOT a forced 24fps setting). I've gotten the "incompatible input" message a couple of times, but it always seems to be related to poor timing in turning on devices and switching inputs away and then back to the TV resolves it (I figured it was forcing a fresh handshake).
I don't have a way to test if the player backs off to a resolution below 1080 by itself. Sorry if I mislead.
