Alright this is what I have 1-A3 for my main, 4-A2's in storage, 1-360-add-on in use, just installed the LG GWC version internal blu-ray/hd reader in my main sytem and am waiting for a dvi to hdmi adapter for my video card to hopefully start playing some region locked disc.

2 A-3's, one in use, other in storage, and an 360 add on hooked up to my pc. If an A-20 / A-30 pops up for cheap, I might grab one.

Getting a blu ray burner that reads HD DVDs also, and trying to track down 2 more 360 attachment drives.

I don't get why anybody would trade down to an A3 when they have an A2 available. The A2 line is built so much better than the A3 line, and the units look a good bit better as well.

I have an LG BH200 for the main tv, an A20 in the bedroom, the 360 add-on connected to the computer, and an A3 in storage. I expected to sell the A3, but I think I'll hold onto it since I'm at 175 HD DVDs and I'd only get ~$50 for it. The benefit of holding it outweighs the bucks I'd get for it. If I find a better player for cheap, I'll ditch it.

Was using the 360 drive, then bought what is an A3 (Venture model). Once I get an HD switch box, i'm going to hook back up the standalone (HD convertor box is on the port that the standalone was on, so I'm back to using the 360 drive). If I can find another 360 drive for cheap, i'm going to get another one.

The appearance of better build quality is the opinion I see stated. I don't know if that is being proven with real statistics, meaning the A3 is breaking down often or the A2 being more durable. I don't own either but I do own the A20 and A30 and have the opinion based on feel that the A20 is better contructed. I can't tell any difference in performance and have forgotten what differences exist as far as features, very minor if any is what I recall. Maybe the 2nd generation converts Dolby Digital Plus to DTS for use over the optical or coaxial digital connections and the 3rd doesn't but I don't use that feature and don't care about it really.

Yes, HD-A2 converts DD+ to 1.5 mbps DTS over the optical connection while HD-A3 just outputs DD at 640 kbps. I like that feature in my HD-XF2 (which is essentially the same as HD-A2), unfortunately my RD-A301 is like HD-A3 in this regard.

2nd generation players are also the only ones that play some import discs from Europe that had compatibility issues with other generation players, e.g. some Polish TiM and French Fox Pathe releases.

I had forgotten that and Bruceames has confimed the issue. I don't have any of the import discs that can't be played using a 3rd generation player but that issue would be important to somebody that does or might get some.

Well, I have 3 HD DVD capable devices setup on different tvs, plus a 360 add-on attached to my pc, and a Toshiba A2 packed in its box.
So I should be able to watch my HD DVDs for awhile!
