Default Toshiba Offers $100 Rebate on New HD DVD Players

Conspiracy theorists be damned, we've just posted a story about Toshiba's just-announced HD DVD player rebate offer, seemingly designed to net the manufacturer some new early adopters this Father's Day.

And this is ON TOP of the 5 Free HD DVD deal that runs all the way through July!

Holy cow!

So $299.99 can buy you an HD-A2 and 5 HD DVDs!?!

Hehe...your move, Blu-ray.

Nice to see them getting aggressive. Exactly what they need to do from the pitiful first quarter.

Holy crap what a deal!

the HD-A2 is $319 on amazon.. would bring it down to $219 w/ 5 free movies! What even most hardcore blu-ray fanboy could pass that deal up?

I'm curious as to whether this deal will work online. If so, holy cow, I'm getting myself a standalone!

But the wording, about getting an "instant, in-store rebate" of $100 makes me think this will be retail only...

My eyes are definitely peeled for a solid answer to this tasty question

Not at all. I smell a strategy this is in this for the long haul. Kudos to Toshiba and HD DVD!

It's online, too.

That means possible sub-$200 players on Amazon.

I would freaking wet my pants!

Do you have a link to confirmation of this?? It's not that I'm doubting you, it's just one of those too-good-to-be-true deals that I don't want to fully excite myself over before I'm positive.

The press release from the HD Promo Group specifically calls out Amazon as a participating retailer:

Quote:
The rebate will be available across a wide range of retailers,
including Best Buy, Circuit City, HHGregg, Amazon.com and many others.

Amazon has nothing to do with the 5 Free HD DVD promotion...that's Toshiba's deal, which, yes, you'd be qualified for if/when you buy an HD DVD player from Amazon

Dang, I've had my A2 for 6 weeks now. I paid $299.00 back then. I got a great deal. But now I could have gotten it for $199.00
