I have also seen it sell for $50 refurbished but it might sell for $500 new once in a while if someone is not well informed. Performance should be exactly he same as the HD-A1 but the HD-XA1 is constructed to a higher standard, very sturdy and rugged. I have seen comments from happy owners of the HD-XA1 that make me believe Toshiba did a nice job, the player is holding up well for many owners.

Not only that, someone reviewed it and said it was a better CD player than there standalones that cost over $1k.

I owned one and didn't think it was anything special. It definetly was well built though. I couldn't tell a difference between HDMI and analog audio however. PQ was mediorce, on par with my A2. I'm way more impressed with my A35 and Onkyo 805 (XA2).

I was really excited when i got the XA1, I really wanted to love it. There just wasn't anything special about its performance. I think it looks cool and has a neat remote. Unfortunetly fold down face was crooked and the video over HDMI gave out within a week. It was more than likely a refurb already.

I love my HD-XA1. Has a very good picture quality (better than newer generations) and CD do sound better with this machine than my PS3 (even with the upscaling)
