Default Toshiba (America) Releases v1.5 Firmware Update for 2nd-Gen Players

Just saw this on the HD DVD Format Blog. I'll try to update it later.

Quote:
Toshiba America has released the another firmware update for HD-XA2, HD-A20, HD-A2, HD-A2W and HD-D2 sold in U.S.. This release will update the firmware to version 1.5.

This update addresses some problems Toshiba has identified with HDMI/DVI connectivity and disc playback.

If you have broadband internet service, you may obtain the firmware update over the internet using the Ethernet port on the back of your HD DVD Player. Instructions for configuring the Ethernet port and downloading the firmware update can be found in the owner’s manual for your HD DVD Player. BEFORE BEGINNING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS, BE SURE TO REMOVE ANY DISCS FROM YOUR HD DVD PLAYER.

If you do not have an Ethernet-based broadband connection for your player or prefer not to use one, you may contact Toshiba Customer Solutions and request that a firmware update disc be sent by mail.

The current firmware update includes all of the prior firmware updates

I had an issue with The Hulk where my menu would just freeze when accessing the extras from the main menu (the disc would still be playing with sound but the cursor wouldn't move).

Playing it right now, accessing the extras and now everything is working fine.

I just called Toshiba about the 1.5 CD. It should be out in a couple of weeks. People (like myself) who received the 1.3 CD will automatically get it.

Discover Italy now works after upgrade. I am playing it now. I don't know about other disc as this is the only one I had trouble with.

Can this simply be downloaded and burned to CD? I didn't see a download option in the link.

The rep I spoke with said "yes". That's one one the reasons they are putting it out so quick.

Wow, Toshiba is really on the ball with this update. Good job, Toshiba -- thanks for supporting your consumers!

Offically no, though I have seen links to places where you can download and burn. But I'm leary of 3rd party things like that. Much easier and safer to download directly from Toshiba.

I received my HD-A2 yesterday and immediatly called Toshiba so that they could mail me a cd for the update as my internet connection is upstairs and my computer is a pain to get out of the place where it's stored. Anyway, the Tosh rep said it would take about 3 weeks to get more in I asked him if it's possible to download and burn the cd...he said no I don't know why, I can do it with my Blu ray.

Since my A2 was made in Dec. 06, there was no way I'm going to wait 3 + weeks for the cd. I dragged my computer out of it's nice cubby hole so I could disconnect the cable from my computer. Connected to my A2..set everything up, and it took about 28 minutes. Now remember, I was probably on version 1.1 , so going to 1.5 would take awhile. But if you have the previous version ( 1.3 ? ) going to 1.5 should be pretty quick. I still won't have time to hook the A2 to my tv until saturday, so I can't comment on any of the updated material.
