Default Firmware Disk

Today I received in the mail a Firmware update for my A3. I dont think I ever asked to have them sent to me. Has anyone else had updates sent without asking for them?

The disk says Update Disc 2.0/1.1 HD-A3/HD-D3

I know someone that got one for the A2 and I'm sure I saw the pink firmware registration card sitting on their counter. I don't know how they got it, but something must have been sent in, even if it was a warranty registration.

Yes, I got a firmware disc for my A35 without requesting one. I haven't tried using it because I am confused and was under the impression that the newest firmware screwed up a lot of A35s out there.

thats weird they sent out a new update disc since the only movies comming now are those wb ones, and none of them have any in movie experiences or anything that might cause issues for exsisting players.

Why? It's called "good customer relations" if Toshiba says "hey HD DVD owners, go screw yourselves!" how many of them will buy Toshiba products in the future? When/if Toshiba decides to make a Blu-ray player, you can bet that they are hoping all the HD DVD owners buy their player instead of Sony or Panasonic. By keeping us happy, they make it a possibility.

Plus, the products are still under warranty. When things go wrong, people call support. That costs time and money. If making a few software fixes reduces support calls, it's defintely worth it.

there is no reason to talk DOWN to me in your response.
i havent had any need to update my hd dvd player, and with the remaining titles comming out lacking any of the interactive features that have been known to cause the occasional hiccup. i think i had a valid inquiry.

I'm not talking down to you at all, if you took it that way, I apologize, it was not my intention.

You're lucky if your HD DVD player worked flawlessly. I've needed to update firmware on my A30 like crazy. With the pre-2.0 firmware, it froze up on combo discs at least 90% of the time. Sicne that update, it's only frozen once (while playing The Hulk about 1.5 hours into the movie). Without firmware updates, I think I'd be pretty angry at Toshiba. Out of the box (with whatever firmware it came with around last November) I had problems playing almost every disc. Now, it's almost always working.

I have been lucky with my A-35 and A-30. No updates yet but my A3 had a problem with Bourne Ultimatum. Replaced the disc and still no update. My X-A1 was updated continuously and all updates improved the machine.

I've heard some complaints about 2.0 with 1080p/24, but otherwise it's been great for me.

When I bought my HD DVD player I mailed my postcard in for firmware update CD's and I have never received a single one. I guess it really doesn't matter because I don't have any issues. I just wonder what Toshiba is doing with information that was filled out on the card.....

I support but I will continue to buy at these prices!
