Default Refurb A35 from Amazon - Playback Problems?

I bought a refurbished A35 from amazon about 2 weeks ago and almost every movie I have watched on it, it freezes at almost exactly the half way point in the movie. (I have yet to watch an entire SD-DVD on it yet.)

Then I open/close the disc tray (I don't even remove the disc from the tray) and go to the chapter where I left off and it plays the rest of the movie fine.

So far this has happened on Bourne 1, 2, and 3, the Big Lebowski, American Gangster and 1 or 2 more that I can't remember off the top of my head.

The next movie I watch I'm going to clear all the persistant storage or whatever it's called (even tho there isn't much) and see if that makes a difference, but I shouldn't have to clear it every time I want to watch a movie...thats just rediculous...

Anyone else have problems like this? Any Fixes?

Is it worth it to send it back to amazon for another one because its still within the 90 days?

Sounds like a bad unit that was returned, then tested as "working" and resold as a refurb. If the player was a generic return then its unlikely a person would have discovered this particular problem during normal operational testing.

Send it back pronto. If for some reason that's not an option then have Toshiba service it.

Ok, I cleared all the persistant storage and just watched Pitch Black and it did it again at 1:02 which is about the halfway point in the movie.

I just called Amazon...they said they can;t do an exchange on a refurb...only returns. So I'm gonna return this one and try my luck with another refurb. Basically I'm breaking even because they're paying for the shipping back to them. If this A35 is also a defect I may just call Toshiba and have them repair it.

yea i had on to, it didn't freeze up at all but it had some weired sound issues. the first time i'd play a disk id have to press stop then restart it to output dd+ or dd true HD to my onkyo 805 receiver. Also if you let the menu cycle trough its first loop the audio would quite and all that would play is static ( also had an intermittent static problem at the very beginning of my import copy of the island).

So those problems combined with the slow chapter skips and annoying load time made me return mine and stick with my add-on.

I just received my A35 refurb yesterday from Amazon when they were selling it for $129 and ran it through the paces for a few movies. So far it's perfect so I suspect you probably got a lemon. I was actually surprised that my refurb came in packaged as if it was new with sealed Bourne Identity and 300 along with manual, remote and all the paperwork also in a sealed bag. It also came loaded with firmware 1.3 which is quite nice. Continue to keep an eye out on Amazon when they sell it again through their warehouse deals.

i had bought another one from warehouse deals for 153.

the sd dvd's always played perfectly in the old refurb a35 but the hddvds is where it would freeze halfway through.

i have only gotten around to watching about 2 hours of galapagos on the new refurb and into the wild (sd dvd)...both played fine.

the old one is packed up and ready to be shipped back to amazon on monday.
