Question Toshiba A30 - what Firmware are you running?

I`m on version 2.0 and noticing some zaggies (zig zag lines) during Dawn of the dead and Aeon flux

what version are you on, and would i be able to go back to 1.3, just by burning the iso and popping it into my player, or will i have to hack?

From various readings on AVS forum, the most recent 2.0 version screws up the 1080p/24fps output with discs using the MPEG-4 encode. You need the hack to revert back to 1.3

i have a similar concern. my A35 originally came with 1.1 then i updated to 2.0, but would like to roll back to 1.3 ... any concerns?

should i roll back to 1.1 then 'ver up' to 1.3 instead?

I haven't tried this myself as I've left my A35 at vers. 1.3, but from the AVSForum thread for FW 2.0, here's a "hacked" version of 1.3 for the A30 that apparently has the "version check" removed so it will load on machines with FW2.0 and re-load 1.3:

Normally, an update checks the version already in the player and if the update is a lower version than that in the player it won't run - it just says something like 'you already have a more up to date FW version'. The hack removes this region check so the 1.3 firmware will load even on a machine that has 2.0 in it currently. The hack doesn't touch the firmware code at all - just the version check.

PS. Dozens of people have run this update version with no problems at all. There is a dedicated thread on here somewhere. Look for the posts by user 'Unbiased'.

Default Rolled back to 1.3 Succesful

I went and dloaded the 1.3 hack and ran in on my A30 with the 2.0 firmware

It a 4 step process, and took about 10min to do

successfully downgraded, ran Aeon flux again and it seams better

So go a head with confidence

Default firmware from Toshiba

I just received a HD-A30 version 2.0 firmware disc from Toshiba unsolicited - probably because I had them send me a 1.3 firmware disc when I had problems burning it. I'm hoping this means they are still providing some support for our players, and will release a 2.1 firmware to correct the 24fps issues introduced in firmware 2.0.

Well they did say they would continue to support them for something like two years.

A German member posted on the AVSForum -

Quote:
According to a dealer in Germany the following firmware versions will become available shortly in Europe:

Version 2.9 für HD DVD Spieler E 1

Version 2.9 für HD DVD Spieler EP 10

Version 2.1 für HD DVD Spieler EP 30

Version 2.1 für HD DVD Spieler EP 35

Version 2.9 für HD DVD Spieler XE 1
So it seems reasonable to expect updates for North American players. I beleive the Spieler (player) EP30 is the A30, EP 35 the A35, and XE1 the XA2.

Not me! I learned from my 1st gen XA1 to wait until updates have been out for awhile and enough folks have posted there are no issues with it. That's why my A35 is still at 1.3 and my XA2 is at 2.7.

Running 1.3 here. Won't upgrade until the 1080p/24hrz issue is fixed.
