Unhappy HD A35 layer switch problem?

Alright, so I've had my A35 since about late January. Been nothing but a good lil machine. Lately though, it's been doing something odd, around 3/4 into movies, it'll start to stutter and then it'll drop the audio or get out of sync. I thought it was just Combos as it did it on Bourne Ultimatum (last 20 minutes are damn near unplayable) and Knocked Up (It stuttered then the sound was out of sync. I chaptered back and it played the rest of the movie fine though).

Last night however I played For Love of the Game in it and about 3/4 of the way in, it broke up really bad like a scratched disc (this one is brand new) and then froze. Chaptering back got it going again, and it stuttered a little in the same part but this time not as bad and then played. It seems to do this on just about every movie now, usually at about 2/3 of the way or later. I don't know if it's the layer switch or what.

Probably going to have to send it in, but before I do it I wanted to ask if anyone else has had this issue or if you know of any fixes?

I have this issue with my A3, It's not as bad as you describe and not every movie does it which is why I'm a little on the fence about sending it in, I don't want them to send it back to me not being able to address the issue,

It seems for me that If I play a movie from the start without pausing etc. then at around the layer change I assume (1hr:04min) it will drop the audio completly, it comes back if I just rewind for a couple sec's and then resume. Ocasionally I'll get a skip or stutter and loose sync of the audio. Certainly annoying and frustrating.

I have an A2 that I bought second hand and it plays every movie perfect. I'm going to try Payback again that movie had a serious issue for me when I rented it, I recently bought a new copy so well see if the audio screws up and the movie freezes.

If it does than for sure I'm sending the thing it to be serviced, toshiba has a authorized center that they told me about on the phone in my city.

Sounds like the player is getting hot. Ive noticed when my A3 has been on for long periods of time this sometimes happens. Ill take the disc out and feel it and it will be quite warm.

Ill turn the player off for half and hour and start over with no problems. I havent noticed this on my A30 though.

This could be the problem...as I have an A2 out in the open and my A35 is enclosed...I would hope not as this is the fear I had with Toshiba products...even their earlier dvd players sucked IMO...but my A35 was flawless until this week.

I experienced the OP's problems with both Knocked Up and now Derailed.

Now i did notice one thing. The out of sync audio ONLY happens to my A35 which is hooked up to my receiver HDMI...I think it may be a handshake issue when the stuttering happens...now the A2 is hooked up only optical to my other receiver and even though the picture studders the audio never gets out of sync.

I had my A35 for 6 months and t has been perfect...not a problem...now it has become the biggest piece of crap...locking up on almost every movie and I have no idea why????

Someone suggested clearing persistent memory out of it but when I go to that menu all I see is on or off options for it. I feel your frustration OP.

well both mine when hooked up have ton's of breathing room so unless it's a faulty fan or something?, Also I've experienced the sync issue during playback when the player's audio is sent both HDMI and SPDIF

I' never have problems with the A2 I have, though I've just started using it I've tried so many discs and nothing but perfect playback everytime. so it's def a player issue, at least In my experience's anyway's.

I had the same problem with 2 HD-A35s & had to return them. I got the HD-XA2 in replacement & had zero problems with it. I downloaded the firmware update to bitstream Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA. Stick with firmware 2.7 & you'll be fine.

There's also an update for the X-A2 to update it to an all-region DVD player as long as your display supports 50hz since it plays PAL natively at 50hz.

I've been importing DVDs from other regsions that aren't anamorphic in the U.S.

With the Reon chip for upscaling it's the best I've seen for upconverting DVDs.

The X-A2 is built like a tank & the HD-A35 has a light plastic feel to it.

No layer change & lipsynch problems for me on the X-A2.

I have the same problem. I didn't discover it as I had been playing BoB (most episodes less than an hour), but I've been getting it more and more these days. I'd like to exchange it, but with Tosh. cutting production, etc. I'm not sure if it'll ever get fixed. I hope that it's something that can be fixed with a firmware update. I'm using the latest firmware. I'm not sure if this firmware is causing the problem or not.

Here's what I experience: at around the 1:10 mark of a movie (happened last night during "Into the Wild"), the movie pauses briefly, the audio goes out, and I'm pissed. I ended up powering off the player and starting up again where it had problems. It was fine in the end, but with the startup times of these players it's certainly not a good thing.

If it doesn't get fixed, I might have to go back to using my add-on for DD+ and DTS soundtracks, and hope that my A35 can work with high resolution audio. It sucks because I was hoping that this expensive player would be a high quality one...guess not. I love Red but my PS3 has never had any playback issues...ever.
