They're getting there, slowly but surely. Once they hit $199 things should start to get interesting.

This is awesome news. It seems that Toshiba has really stepped things up for the HD DVD camp lately. We've heard some really great news over the past several days!

There are already some vendors selling the XA-2 for under $600. Not bad!

don't sign, you got 3 free hd dvds right?

it's not too bad, you get to enjoy first and without having to worry about when the A20 comes out.

The first gen is already near that price... $280 at amazon. Prices are falling quicker than I expected, which is nice.

First the Matrix trilogy, now this. Great news for HD DVD owners. I really believe that at this stage who ever gets lowest prices with the hardware will have upper hand. It seems that Sony won't be able to fulfull its promise of dropping prices to $599US on its blu-ray player. $399 vs. $999. the choice is very clear in my opinion.

Almost there, I think $200-300 is the real breakthrough point for casual consumers. Great move by Toshiba to remain the price leader for HD format hardware!

The article says both first-generation decks, but it should read all three second-generation decks.
