First Gen Toshiba players getting update !
Next week first Generation Toshiba HD DVD players (XA-1, A-1) will finally recieve a long awaited firmware update to 2.1.
Details are few and far between but disk skips ect are suppose to be addressed. Hopefully they took there time on this one and fixed a few things because people will be irked if it took this long to come out with one than doesnt. Many people still report DVI colorspace issues ect. Time will tell.Last edited by Maxx_75; 03-02-2007 at 01:51 PM. Reason: added info....

This is from Robert of Value Electronics via his Toshiba contacts. He has proven himself to be a good source of information in the past.
Although from time to time he has jumped the gun on how ready the are to release a firmware. He was a bit early on the A-2 release but it ended up comming just as he had said. -

I doubt that load times will be affected. This will likely be a bug fix update dealing with DVI issues and playback skipping ect. If it does offer more responsivness I wouldn't image a big increase in speed. The load times ect are more than anything a result of the drive itself than software.

I'm sure (if memory serves) that Toshiba did originally say they'd support the G1 players into 2007, and here we are.
To be fair, they have to protect their bottom line, and if they've sold as many A-2s as has been reported, I can understand why the A-2 firmware update would get priority.-Mal -

Excellent information, I'll be watching for the update. They were pretty quick at first, but it's been a while since 2.0...

"Ver.2.1" of up-to-date version was released. With up-to-date version, reading efficiency of the disk it has improved. Version rise method besides the fact that it downloads from the Toshiba server making use of substance functional "ethernet communication", does also the sending service of CD-ROM which recorded the rise data. It guides the details of sending service in the same company home page.Last edited by Maxx_75; 03-09-2007 at 01:48 PM. Reason: updated data

Is there anyway we can burn the update on a CD-ROM? The last update I downloaded I was never able to get all 100% of it.
