Coaler my TX-SR605 and HD-A35 does the same thing with the TrueHD track... it just flashes TrueHD on the receiver and there is no sound.

Note that my system uses the component cables for video, because my TV doesn't have HDMI.

I updated the HD-A35 to rev 2.0 firmware last night and still no good. I was thinking about renting the TopGun HD-DVD to make sure the problem isn't my own disc.

I have recently replaced my Toshiba HD-A35 HD-DVD player with a Samsung BD-UP5000 Dual Format Player. Samsung just released rev 1.3 firmware to enable HD Bitstreaming and I have found my original problem remains.

HD-DVD discs 'Top Gun' & 'Led Zeppelin Concert' offer Dolby TrueHD tracks, however my TX-SR605 just flashes 'Dolby TrueHD' on the display and will not lock on.

Onkyo Support believes the problem could be a weak signal that the player is sending out or disc could possibly be dirty.

Removing the original HD-DVD player from the system effectively leaves the TX-SR605, my particular CABLES UNLIMITED PCM-2295-03M Cable (1.3 standard, supports 10.2Gbps bandwidth) or the physical HD-DVD media as possible causes.

Any one else have any new information?

I too am having the "Toshiba A35 Dolby TrueHD EX bitstreaming to the Onkyo TX-SR605" problem as well. I didn't realize that the problem was only happening with TrueHD EX tracks as other TrueHD tracks stream fine through my system. The discs I have a problem with are:

- Happy Feet (non-combo)
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (music only track)

Here's the question we're all wondering here - is it the player or the receiver? My A35 is at firmware 3.0 and I can't get the TrueHD EX track to play even if I choose not to bitstream [fingers are pointing to the player]. Just a flashing Dolby TrueHD logo. I also checked to see if I needed the 605 update and I don't.

It's clear from reading other posts that the XA2 works with a 705. We need to hear from someone that is using the combination of an A35 to a 705 or any experience from an XA2 to a 605. That should clear up what gear is causing the issue.

To those who are saying that the 705 works - what comes up on the display? Does it know that the track is an EX track? I know that the 605 displays the "EX" for DD+ soundtracks with that encoding.

So either the A35 doesn't know how to decode the track properly, or the 605 doesn't know what to do with the raw bitstream. Which is it???

I'm getting to this party a bit late but I wanted to chime in. I've got a Yamaha RXV-3800 and the bit streaming works fine. It does show up as EX if I look at the signal info and the "matrixed" speaker lights up. The front display just reads Dolby True HD (no EX).
However, I'm having trouble telling if there are any sounds coming out of the rear speakers (I have a 7.1 setup). I may have to take the speakers down from the wall to be sure either way. Is it possible that this is incorrectly flagged since the disc only states True HD 5.1?

I thought you guys were crazy with that TrueHD EX and DD+ Ex talk. I popped it in my Onkyo HD805 bitstreamed to by Denon 1909 and sure enough, 6.1 source. I'm not using my A35 right now, nor do I have an Onkyo receiver, but it is playing fine for both HD tracks.
