Yeah i just noticed this however the one closest to me (i live in Canada and would go to the one in bellingham) does not have any. The closest one is 1.3 hours away....to far to travel to save 100 bucks.

You should be able to order this online as well. Do the guys who run High Def Digest work on weekends as well? I wonder how long until this shows up in the news section.

Great news for HD DVD, and even with its 1080i spec, the mainstream consumer is still going to be very tempted. I am looking forward to see how the format war sits after the New Year.

these holidays are going to be amazing for HD-DVD imo. (sure Blu-ray will continue to do well, d'uh)
But my point is the format war is OFFICIALLY a stalemate as far as I'm concerned. Really no point for "Smackdown forum" anymore IMO.
(it's still fun, however)

This should also mean we can pick these up at Best Buy for the same price because of pricematching... so don't forget to shop there as well.

I would really be interested to hear what's going on over at Toshiba. I wonder if someone from the site has a contact who might be able to find out if they are planning to continue producing this player and retailing at this price point.

Unfortunately, logic would point to this being a clearance price to pave the way for the A-3, but I certainly hope they sell well and Toshiba sees that $200 is indeed the magic number. If that were the case we could see a sub $200 player on the shelves (other than the Venturer) through the holidays and THAT would be great for the format.

That's if they have any. I have 5 BB within 30 miles of my home and none of them had this player I checked yesterday. CC didn't have it either. I also got a coupon for $40 off any purchase over 199 so you would have to buy a candy b ar or something here is the link http://www.pulverizer72.com/scans/ccitycoupons.jpg I was going to use that and they were going to price match bb where you got the 2 free hd dvd's and they didn't have any. So I end up going to wal mart and getting the Jack Ryan Collection because I was looking for the player. It wouldn't ring up but the clerk was pretty much clueless and rang it up manually I was like damn right!!
Mischa.

I would assume like you that they replace this with the A3 once inventories are gone, but considering the A2 and A3 are very similar, (From what I hear the A3 costs less for Toshiba to produce)

They could probably get the A3 to the $200 level fairly shortly as well.

Anybody knows the specs for A3?

I would think Toshiba also would price A3 under 200 for the christmas sale. If they can sell a hugh amount of player before christmas, they would get a good start for the next year.

I believe the specs for the A-3 are identical to the A-2. The only difference is the slimmer chassis and slimmed down display on the front. The display is smaller and displays less information during playback.

Did someone call for a troll?

My question is as follows:
How many A2s does Toshiba have in overstock?

oh god... you again... the bd fanboy that has an hd dvd avitar... let alone the pm that you sent me saying the reason why you don't have hd dvd is because your wife won't let you buy another player. just get one and cut out the fake fanboy posts... don't troll because you're mad that your wife doesn't like uni or paramount and is a disney nut. if you scooped up one of these players, she'd only bitch and complain until shrek 3 comes out . shrek is what disney fans cheat on disney with.
