The A2 will only output 1080i. There is no update that will enable 1080P from the A2. You need to buy the A20 or XA2 if you want 1080P output.

A1. This update addresses some problems Toshiba has identified with HDMI/DVI connectivity and disc playback.

Q4. During HD DVD playback I sometimes experience pixelization, block noise or audio dropouts. Sometimes playback freezes or stops. Sometimes, playback is not smooth. Does the new firmware address these issues?

You should also check to be sure that the disc is clean and, if the disc will not operate at all, that you are inserting the disc with the right side up. After going to the Maintenance->Update screen it says Update 1000/T17T and I choose Yes, Next, Next, OK and then it says The software has already been updated. The update process will end.

Mine updated to 1.2
It is also listed on the Toshiba website with info about it. Not hard to find. It is under the resources tab on the HD-A2 product page.

If when you go to update it, it says "1000/T17T" then you still have the original firmware. You can either send your Toshiba card in and they'll send you a disc or you can download the ISO and burn it to a CD from here:

Most people have had good luck with the U.S. .NRG file.

This is a know bug. Many of the A2's will not update via ethernet. Mine won't either. I am waiting on a disk from Toshiba. I have tried to dl a few of the files but cant get any of them to burn. Good luck. Supposely they are working on it. I am not holding my breath. Perhaps when another firmware is released it will work. We will see I guess.

Well I downloaded the software via link and presto my A2 now shows version 1.2/T19M. I'm assuming that is right But Toshiba's web site is showing it as Version 1.3. Is there a newer one now?

Yes they just released 1.3 today. If you had an affected unit that could not update from 1000 (1.0) then you had to update to 1.2 via disk.

But once you are at 1.2 you SHOULD be able to use the ethernet functionality now to get 1.3.
