How will HD-DVD look on 1080i?
Is it even worth buying. I have two TV's that are 720P/1080i. Will an HD-DVD or Blu Ray even look better than a standard DVD on those TV's since my TV is only 1080i? Thanks. Please explain if you can.

HD-DVD films look amazing on my plasma and it's only done at 720p/1080i max.
Trust me, you'll notice a big difference
The Matrix Trilogy/King Kong/Mission Impossible 3/etc all blew me away.
I can't imagine how much better it is on 1080p sets as I have yet to witness. -

Go for it. For a few months I was running my player on a 1080i television...night and day compared to dvd.

It will look great at 1080i, but how big the difference from SDVD upconverted will depend on the size of the display and the viewing distance. You certainly don't need a 1080p TV to enjoy HD.
How big is your TV and how far do you sit from it?-Wayne

i have a new mitsu 46" LCD 1080p (lt-46131), but right now i can only do 1080i due to not having an hdmi slot on my 360. TRUE 1080i looks amazing, a 1080i signal from a native 768 set will still look amazing.

I have the HP PL5060N 50" Plasma, native 720p/1080i, totally awesome! I used to run it at 1080i, but as I cannot tell the difference except with fast motion (which looks jumpy at 1080i and not on 720p) I am watching everything at 720p. You will LOVE IT! If you really want some eye candy, get Planet Earth and just sit back and get ready to go WOW! Also, I agree with "King Kong" above being a good show-off for your set and "The Last Samurai" and "The Hulk" as well. I honestly am sort of glad I don't have a 1080p set as I would have wanted one of the higher end HDDVD players and probably not gotten into HD at all. But since I can't do better than 1080i, the HD-A2 was in the budget and I am not looking back. In fact, I have not purchased nor watched a non HD movie in weeks.

I have a 42" Samsung plasma/720p and sit about 9 feet away.....there is a huge difference in HD DVD and SD DVD.
I've been amazed at HD DVD. Freddy
