Default HD-A2 for $199.99 at Crutchfield

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-U3Nkc9L...9850&I=052HDA2

They have an instant $100 dollar off rebate right now bringing it down to $199.99. Only thing is they are sold out and estimate the next batch coming in June 26th.

As long as they let you purchase now, and still get the same deal when they get new stock in, it's a heck of a great sale.
Also, the fact that they ARE out of stock tells us that they are selling out quickly. That is Fantastic news for HD-DVD. The more stand-alone players that are out there, the better support we have for the format.
Combine this with the possibility that MS has hopes that they can sell the Basic XBOX 360 gaming system for $199 by the end of the year, and Toshiba putting HD-DVD players in all of their lap tops next year, and wow, HD-DVD could really have a VERY STRONG end of the year, and push into next year.
Now if we can just get some great new news on upcoming releases, that will be a triple threat.

CC also has the 2 free movies with the 360 add-on purchase.
Plus, CC has the HD-A20 for $299 with the purchase of a Toshiba HDTV.
Not that I think many people are going to buy a new HDTV so they can get a good price on an HD-DVD player, but hey, it's something.

As to the OP, great deal from Crutchfield, but I'm not sure I'd trust them to get more by June 26. $238 in stock at Amazon, and the $100 rebate applies also to the A20 & XA2 starting Tuesday.

Now, we can get an HD-DVD stand alone player for as much as the 360 add-on. That is really amazing. And for 100 more, you can find sales for the 1080p hd-dvd (with the purshase of a TV, and stuff like that).
I think this Christmas will have AMAZING prices.

360 hd dvd add on runs about $150 on ebay. Sell that and a few of the free movies and i get a decent nice upgrade. I'm in for one.

I know what you mean...2 weeks ago I sold my add-on and the complete matrix on E-bay for get this.......$261!!! That’s exactly how much I paid for them....and I had the add-on since it's opening day!...What a deal for me! I then went out and bought a HD-A2 at best buy and got 2 free HD-DVDs instantly with it and 5 more free ones through the Toshiba deal for only $39 more than the guy gave me for the add on and matrix! So I got an HD-A2 and 7 free HD-DVDs for only $39!!

I think this thread alone made Crutchfield stop the deal. The link is showing the A2 for $299 now. I'm glad I went ahead and ordered mine before the deal ended.

Unfortunately this turned out to be a pricing error on Crutchfield's part and they're not going to honor the $199 price.

i'd be very surpised if that happened. crutchfield is all about customer service. i even received a phone call verifying my order after i placed it yesterday. it wasn't an automated recording, it was an actual representative. but you do have me somewhat worried. how do you know they won't honor the $199 price?
