Default Anomoly at Walmart

I went into Walmart this morning after work and was wating to see what 2 for $20 blu's they had (they have yet to put them out on the floor since theft has increased at this store) and I saw something on the shelf. In plain sight.

Star Trek: The Original Series HD DVD/DVD Combo set: $49.95. Needless to say, I was awestruck. This is NEW stock, since it has a May09 merchandise sticker on it. Is Walmart just selling old stock to capitalize on the new Star Trek film out? I just thought it was strange. Anyone else seen this yet?

Yep, they have had them for weeks now. In fairness it is the DVD series they are selling that just happens to be the HD as well. Must be selling well because they have sold out of the TOS seasons at our location several times.

TOS season 1 will probably be hight water mark for any HD tv season sold for awhile. The Combo idea worked in this case. Not that I am a fan of combo discs, but the idea in general was a solid one that has been adopted by quite a few Blu releases to spur sale.

On a weird note, our wal-mart had the 2 for 20 blu deal, but has otherwise significantly reduced the Blus in store. They probably had more blus with that damn Cube 50/50 HD/blu display in the center isle.

Mine has reduced the BR space down to 25% of what it used to be. Not to mention Blockbuster cut about half of its BR space and expanded the DVD section again. I hope I didn't invest in another dead/dying technology.

Yeah our store had the HD/DVD Combo too. Weird that your stores are cutting down BD space. Ours has a 14 foot section with 3 glass cases, two end caps and the 4 way with the 2/$20 bd's.

Its bloody weird. I think they are testing markets or something.

Ours never had glass cases for any movie, dvd blu or hd, only item in the electronics section in glass cases is Video Games and accessories.

The Blu section we had was about 8ft (guessing), and a end cap, now it is a end cap with a few blu sprinkled in the regular DVD section, and the 2 for 20 display, which was only 2 way display (meaning a main front and two sides) , with the other half of the display cheap dvds. There was a pile of the sale Blu players too.

I was surprised they cut the section so deeply, other have posted pictures of veritable blu wonderlands in newly renovated wallyworlds. Our finished their renovation to a expanded DVD section and diminished Blu. A lot children's stuff too and the 2 fox tv seasons for $19 isn't to bad either.

The blu ray space in my store is almost non-existant, and they have yet to put out the 2 for 20 blus, because they are afraid they will be stolen like the $15 single blus and that they don't know where to put them, since they barely have any space for blus in the first place.

It is weird how it varies from store to store. I know when I was out of town I stopped at a Wal-Mart and they didn't even have a blu section. Just one end cap with a few new releases and the rest were the $10 bd's.
The store I shop at just remodeled the electronics section recently and it looks a lot more like Best Buy now.

That is what everyone has been saying, that were trying to take Circuit city's place.. And they have improved the electronics section over all, but not tot he point I'd compare it to BB. So far all on stores in my area are the same or close enough to it.

I noticed this last week. Was going to pick one up but was short on cash and didn't want to spend the $50.00. Might have to grab it this weekend though.

Does it have the HD DVD logo on the packaging etc? I heard a rumor that the HD DVD side might be blank so you might want to double check.
