Default UP5000 $241.18 (Scam?)

First let me start by saying that I am very suspicious of this deal. I think it is likely a scam. For several reasons; 1. being that they do not specify if the unit is used or new or refurb. 2. they don't charge shipping, at least they don't show the cost in the estimates. 3. I never heard of them 4. looks too good to be true.

I was put wise to this deal by friend who knows I'm a HD nut and though this was a good deal for me, but soon after seeing the website (which looks legit enough) alarm bells went off.

So I am putting it up to you guys to evaluate.

The site is www.superdiscountelectronics.com
the deal is UP5000 $241.18

the more I look at it the more I believe it is a scam, if so lets label it so nobody is take in by it.

Never heard of this place, and that price is too low even for an open-box or refurb. The cheapest I've seen someone get this is $279-299 for open-box with missing pieces, so I'd stay away. Poke around your local Circuit City, you might stumble on an open-box or display model you could get for close to that.

If it's too good to be true, it's probably not true

If you check under their Shipping & Handling info, it says,

"We do not process orders under $500"

The $389 original price is definitely a refurb. New is also available at twice the price. I don't know anything about this seller either and you are right to be skeptical.

If this is legit and refurbished players are going to be sold at this price, I would expect to see other online sellers have the same price or close soon, including some that we know something about.

I'll beat that: $249.99 open box from Best Buy like 3 months ago, included unit (like new), remote and cables.

Well, if you're gonna make this a contest...

$229 at CC two weeks ago. Display model. The salesmen threw in 50 First Dates, Invincible, and Night at the Museum on .

So no good movies then good deal thou.

Yeah, this doesn't look like place to take chance on. It does come up in Google price search, but that doesn't necessarily mean much. I did find a mention of this place in a price finder forum and they were of the opinion it was a crooked site, apparently the phone number the site was registered to goes to a phone with an answering machine that says the number has nothing to with the website

[]

rang the number listed..

Customer service: (210) 408-1335

Address US (Main): 2206 NW Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78230-5309

Answering machine picked and it is a US residence, the answer machine greeting is as follows..

Hi you have reached xxxxxxx residence, this number is being used by a false website, superelectronics and this is not their number, they have been using it for the past few years, I wouldn't trust it. I have also checked the address and there is no business by that name at the address in San Antonio.

If it were a BH200, I'd give you the nod. But not for a 100.

Plus the 5000 has a Reon. So I'm still winning. Boo-yah.

Wtf? Why would they put up with that for 3 years instead of getting a new #?
