Default Deep Discount Sending Out False Shipping Notifications, Did You Get One?

I placed an order for a couple of HD DVDs on 6/4, Then Friday morning I received a shipping notification from them, that it has shipped via Media Mail.

OK I figured, I should get it in a few days, a week tops.

Well, its now been just about 2 whole weeks, and nothing.

I KNOW very well, that USPS is not that slow with Media Mail, I've mailed items with Media Mail myself, and it takes a 1 or 2 days if its within a few hundred miles, and about 3 to 5 days max for across country.

So what does that mean?

It means they are outright lying to you.

There is ZERO chance they shipped it on Friday, or even the following Monday or Tuesday actually.

This type of behavior is absolutely unacceptable.

I don't mind slow shipping, but I'll be damned if your going to lye to me about it.

Well, I understand the frustration with Deep Discount, they are very slow. But they are known for that type of business. Deep discount could really keep you waiting inpatiently by your mail box. But then again they are reliable, but the shipping just kills me. Havent ordered from them in a while, just for that reason. I mean you have HD DVDs coming from different countries that get to your house faster. Just Venting out on Deep Discount, but like I said very RELIABLE.

I received an e-mail telling me that a few of my HD discs were unavailable at the time, but that the remaining 5 were shipped. Then a few days later I got an e-mail telling me that 2 of those 5 were shipped. Later, I got another e-mail letting me know that 1 more had shipped. I ordered 9 movies total, and a week and half later none have arrived yet.

It's my first order from Deep Discount, and I'm hoping it goes well, but this has me kind of anxious about what'll happen to the remaining HD's I ordered. I think my Australian imports arrived faster...

I've seen media mail take 10 business days before. I once asked a mail employee about it and he told me that it is put at lowest priority. If they're experiencing a busy time it can easily sit at the post office for a week before anything is done with it.

I've ordered from DD a couple times, and while they often break up shipments to send to you faster, and their shipping time is pretty slow, I have always received my movies, and for the price - I was happy.

Maybe it's worth giving them a break, since they have a pretty good selection, have offered an additional 20% off their already decent prices, plus they give you free shipping, plus they break up shipments (which probably costs them more & I don't understand why they do this from a business perspective), which means you get at least SOME of your movies faster.

If any of you are like me, you're already sitting on a VAST pile of unwatched, unopened movies already. Will waiting another couple weeks really put the nail in the coffin?

You are exactly right. My dad works for the post office and he says First Class, Priority, and Express mail will be processed everyday, but if there is too much mail to process for a given day then Media Mail will just sit in the processing center until a slower day comes and they can process those pieces of mail. You get what you pay for with Media Mail and that's why I usually don't ship things out that way.

You are absolutely wrong about USPS Media Mail taking "about 3 to 5 days max for across country". I've had Media Mail shipments take close to three weeks to arrive.

Yes, sometimes Media Mail packages arrive quickly. I've had some of the 2 day deliveries myself. But the thing about Media Mail is that the delivery times can vary incredibly.

And why would why DeepDiscount would lie and send out false shipment notifications? What would they gain from doing that other than unhappy customers?

Anyway, good luck with your order. Hopefully it will arrive soon!

Amazon shipped me something on the 16th, from the Atlanta GA warehouse - it took it until the 19th to get scanned in to the processing center in Atlanta, GA (I'll assume it didn't sit in the driver's truck all that time - it was at the center, just not scanned in). So, three days just to get processed at one hub - luckily I live in the city of the next major hub it goes thru, so it might get here before the end of the week. All total, it will probably take 5 or 6 days to make a 5 hour drive.

DD uses a slow method of shipping, true, and can take a few days to get an order together (so can Amazon, sometimes a week or two for an order that would be done "now" if I paid for overnight shipping). But so far, I've always received everything I ordered and it was not much slower than Amazon. You just don't get the ability to look up tracking (could be worse - order from Australia via postal mail and spend several weeks wondering if your order will make it thru).

Imagine, if you will, the media mail pile at the office or DCU where the outbound Deep Discount media mail goes. Someone has to sort that pile.

Inbound media mail to Deep Discount is likely a fraction of the volume, and likely handled by a different carrier/staff.

I can see USPS staffing choices making a major impact on this. Not sure this is the problem -- but I see the potential.

I know from first hand experience that media mail can take up to 3 or 4 weeks to be delivered. That's part of why the USPS gives such a cheap rate for the service.

I dunno, my girlfriend ordered me Star Trek HD for Xmas back in November, and by the end of January we still hadn't received it... We just cancelled the order and got our money back. On the whole, they're ok (slow, but OK); however, the Star Trek debacle soured me a bit on the DD experience.

I ordered $175.00 from this last sale and it took over two weeks to arrive via media mail. I'm on the east coast, so it was only traveling the distance of (roughly) half the country.

Finally got my order today, 6/24.

Sadly, and I'm actually kinda pissed about it, there is no date stamp from the post office on the package.

So i can't prove that they lied.

But I just don't think it should have taken that long.

Either the post office is absolutely ludicrously slow.

Or, the more plausible explanation, they did not ship it when they sent me a shipping notification
