Sitting at 3tb's now with plans of adding another 4tb this summer. All drives are setup for full redundancy.

4TB Drives in the tower

4TB External Drives

So 8TB total...why do I need so much space?

Two reasons "Home-Made Porn" and "Video Editing" for said porn.....(haha)

Seriously, I need that much space for all the video editing I do for my clients...Weddings take up the most space, Ill have maybe 4-5 cuts of the same event. Also, we offer "At Your Wedding" where some guests play camera man, and they have their own take and footage of the wedding (yeah I know, cheesy...Im just a outsourced editor!)...there maybe another 4-5 cuts of that too.

I hear that, my sony hdr-hc1 needs a lot of space when I pull in the video.

Sitting on 2TB internal, 2TB external at home, for about 4TB. Probably be upgrading to 3-5TB internal soon. I'm in the process of ripping my entire SD-DVD library to H.264 to stream to my AppleTV, so..... You get the idea.

Now at work, we have about 40TB of dedicated video storage. 20TB of which is striped across a couple xRaids with the rest floating for sneakernet and going out in the field.

Two massive media servers, (so far) both with 8Tb of storage. Three more TB of external USB storage added to each server making a total of 22 Tbs. Of the 22 Tbs., 20 is used up with mostly SD DVD's and MP3's. I am in the process of building a third media server which will also house 8 Tbs of storage. Now that I have finally found a convenient way to back up my HD DVD's and Blu rays I will begin loading up this new server once it's finished.

Don't be. This is all geek speek. Unless you do massive amounts of video editing or the like - TB drives are not the norm. Not now anyway. They are mainly reserved for those that think they need all that space and "redundancy" for video files. Lol.

In a world riddled with waste, you would think people would consume LESS, not more.

How much entropy is a result of flying and shipping truck loads of plastic discs around the continents, compared with downloading media over a network? There is an enormous amount of waste associated with modern consumer practices.

If you want to be an environmentalist, you should try to understand thermodynamics better.
