Default PS3 HD Media Streaming

I used to stream WMV HD from my pc to the 360 or even play it from disc but the PS3 doesn't support this, no? Is there a file type in HD that will stream to the PS3 that you can download?

The PS3 should be able to play WMV files with the latest firmware. You need to go into the settings and enable WMV playback first though.

It depends on the WMV....

Almost every WMV file will play on my 360 Streamed with no probem...

But Ill run into snags on the PS3 side (even if you have the latest FW)

I think it comes down to the WMV encoding profiles, and restrictions the PS3 puts on playing certain files encoded in certain profiles.

The PS3 doesnt even play all of my files in the .avi container, the 360 plays most of it, but its still not 100% on both sides.

Of course you could use Nero Media Home to stream it, and it will play fine on the PS3 you can even play .mkv files...but unless you have a really fast computer on a hard line connection to the PS3, it will stutter badly, because it will transcode it on the fly.

I just found out that the PS3 needs to be connected to the internet to enable WMV.

I downloaded The Dark Knight trailer at work, unzipped it, saved it to a flash drive and took it to a friend's house. I went to go enable WMV on her PS3 and a message comes up saying that no ethernet cable was detected. Yeah, I was pissed.

I just gave up eventually and installed Tversity with FFDShow and set it transcode everything to MPEG-1. Do NOT install the codec pack that comes with Tversity. This works much better IMHO.
