Default RIP Physical Media

For those of you who thought getting your movies through a wire was ten years off take a looky here:

Roberts is expected to demonstrate a technology that delivers up to 160 megabits of data per second: It will allow him to download a high-definition copy of "Batman Begins" in four minutes. The technology, DOCSIS 3.0, will start rolling out this year.

Blu-ray vs. HD DVD smackdown. When can we either start giving these bitter HD DVD nuts infractions or set-up a new forum?

VOD is Netflix and Blockbuster killer.

It will not affect people who collect movies.

do you have any idea how much that would cost? I have a 2 MBit/s internet connection... besides you still lose out on the extra's it'll be limited to you locate and be DRM'd like crazy... Downloads aren't ready TBH I don't think it will ever offer what physical media can...

Actually this thread violates rule number 12...

(12) POST to the forum that is most appropriate for the topic being presented. Threads incorrectly placed will be moved or closed.

This has nothing to do with Blu-ray or HD DVD, and especially not Blu-ray vs. HD DVD smackdown.

It has something to do with Physical HDM v. downloads... I.E. blu camp doesn't have 10 years (as has been suggested) to get their act together.... The devices that can be used for VoD digital downloads are already here, and already cheap. Simple software updates and faster internet will enable downloads and we could be looking at the end of physical media. Here's hoping blu camp gets it's act together quickly.

Blu guys: swearing and name calling makes you come across as immature.

Original post: I am a collector, digital downloads will never work for me. I prefer physical media and will always unless it goes away entirely. I don't feel that way about music and buy from Itunes (probably because I only use my home theater for movies and TV, I use the PC for playing music).

I just don't get it. We already have VOD. I can play movies on demand from my cable box - I can download (legally) off the net - heck, you can download movies from the 360 (I think).

But people are still buying and renting physical discs.

This isn't the future - it's already here - the only thing they are working on now is getting the picture and audio quality up.

And when they do - we'll still be in the same exact position we are in right now.

what did you invest more in the HD-DVD player or the BD player? assuming from this download loaded thread, and your avatar I'll assume HD-DVD... am I right?

Verizon has 15Mbit connections available now for $39.99... They run fiber right to your house for that.

Well start by memorizing the rules and using the little report button to report REAL rules violations... It works great for me;-)
