Default dual layer blank blu-rays

does anyone find it odd how for doubule layer blank blu-ray discs cost 40-50 dollars each for write once or 60-80 dollars each for re-writeable when studio produced blu-ray movies cost 20-30 on amazon o n double layer media? that's a load of crap... it should cost less for a blank disc than a disc with content on it... kind of like dvd media costs between 20 cents for regular media and 2 bucks for double layer media and you can buy new dvds for 5-15 bucks... i mean 10-15 bucks is worth it for a single layer re-writeable blu-ray disc, but the cost of dual layer media is outrageous... anyone agree? anyone find any real good deals on double layer blu-ray media? does it work in all blu-ray burners?

You do realize that pressed discs and blank media are two different things, don't you?

If blank media was cheaper then it would promote piracy a lot more then if it is at its current price. If I know if I was going to burn blu ray movies instead of buying them, I would not do it at the current price range when I can buy the movie for less then the blank media.

Prices will eventually come down this format is still pretty new.(Although I don't see it ever getting as low as the current blank dvd media)

Even dual layer dvd-+r's are considered to expensive by most people.

well blank dvd media is the same cost as blank cd media... and dual layer discs are only about 1.50-2 bucks each, which isn't that bad... and you only need a double layer disc once and a while, because single layer discs still do the trick pretty well for most operations. the only double layer disc i had to create was a digital video essentials disc that i keep in my car for when i go over someone's house who doesn't know how to set up a home theater system... I don't want to keep my original in my car due to heat/cold/wet conditions and there's always that time when i go to someone's house and they buy an expensive tv and don't even hook it up right... i even intend to keep some cheap et functional cables in my car for them people that hook up their blu-ray players or xbox 360s with composite cables or have the rca cables hooked up to their surround sound receiver...

I'm a real dork for making backup copies of my software to keep in my car for on the spot fix ups of other people's f**k ups. with all the blu-ray talk, i'd probially want to make myself a backup of the new dve to keep in my car for these reasons especially with the new slew of blu-ray/ps3 owners out there.

They weren't always priced that low. I remember when blank DVDs first came out and they were $25-$30 a disc!!! and that was single layer!!!

The prices will come down just like they did for every other format.

I can't wait for BD burners and blank DL media to become affordable. The thing I love about backing up all my SD DVDs on to my computer is I can remove all the menus/extras/unwanted audio tracks and re-burning it onto a SL or DL. I just want to be able to pop in a movie with no bull shit. I hate the trailers, menus, selecting audio track, ect....

that's a legitimate use except that it seems too much like work. I just do direct backup of my software and a/v demos so if it gets messed up in my car i don't have to buy another one because i'd have my original safely on my shelf at home.
