Can I convert hd dvd rip to smaller format e.g x264

Hi, am new to this forum. I want to know if it is possible to convert my hd dvd rip to another space saving format like, x264. the whole essence is to save space on my comp. I have serached all over the internet but I have come up blank. Please help.

I would bet so. I would start looking at the doom9 forums. They deal a lot with encoding/transcoding, ripping, decrypting, all that jazz. www.doom9.org
