Default Sell A2, BDP1500 and get Samsung BDUP5000?

Is it a good idea to sell my toshiba A2 and Sammy 1500 and get a 5000?

I have 100 + 's and 30+ 's

I would like 1080p for 's and the single player deal is appealing.

Any suggestions??

Thanks for your help

Also I would be buying the 5000 first and selling the others after, just to recoop some monies.

That's a risky proposition...the last firmware update for the 5000 came almost a year ago. I'm not sure they have any intention of updating it again.

I don't own an HD-A2 or BD-P1500 but I do own the BD-UP5000 and I would say don't put yourself in a position to have to depend on the BD-UP5000. I believe the performance is excellent for Blu-ray, DVD and HD DVD but only when the discs play and Samsung isn't supporting the player very well as Vinnie mentions. I think separate players for both formats is a better option.

Thank both of you for your opinions and help. This is exactly why I posted!

Looks like my best best is to find a Toshiba A3 ? This way I can get 1080p video out of my red discs.

I love to dual player, but the lack of firmware upgrades scare me, and if an owner of a 5000 is pointing me the other way. I have to listen. Thanks.

And as Chris stated, it is a great player (that has unfortunately been giving me troubles with Warner HD DVDs lately) that I would recommend if the manufacturer were more attentive to it.

I'd suggest an LG BH200. In addition to playing both & at 1080p/24, it is changeable for region coding via the remote, should you ever want to play a region B locked import. And as for firmware, LG just enabled BD Live with a firmware update in June, and LG techs that post on the AVS forum report they're working on another FW update for problems with newer BD releases.

But, in any event, no - an A3 is still only 1080i. You need an A20, A30, A35, XA2, or Onkyo HD805 for 1080p in an only player.

If you really want to drop those two players for a combo player then I would go with the LG BH200 over the Samsung UP5000. I read about both extensively last year and from what I could find the LG is much more reliable than the Samsung. Also, with a remote hack the BH200 can be made a region free player.

No, No, No. Samsung 5000 has issues playing titles. Get a new BD player and spend $50 on a A20/A30 if you want 1080p.

Well I still like having seperates because if something goes wrong with the dual format player you can't play anything. If you plan on getting a new player then I would just upgrade the HD dvd player as mentioned so you can get 1080p from your HD dvd collection.

+1 for the BH200. I love mine.

Do some research on AVSFORUM though. It has HDMI handshake or audio issues with certain other hardware, notably Pioneer receivers.

Also, it doesn't present 4x3 and really old non-anamorphic widescreen movies properly. This is a non-issue if your TV has flexible zoom/stretch modes, or you have another device that can play DVDs.

I have both and goofnut, the BH200 is not much more reliable than the BD-UP5000 (in some ways, the latter is even more reliable). Don't get a BH200 either.

so I need an A30 at least, The BH200 looks good too - thanks for highlighting i that. I am sort of confused as to what to do now. I am definitely going to make one of the moves, but I can't really figure out which is the best - per se.

I have a BH200 and a 5000 very few issues with either one. Both have great picture and sound. If you can get a deal on one I would grab it.

I like the BH200 a little better than the Samsung BD-UP5000 but in my opinion there are too many problems being reported to want to rely on it either. If the OP can make 2 players work including any of the HD DVD players you mention or the Integra DHS-8.8 he will likely face less frustration. LG might fix the issues with the upcoming firmware update and may continue to update firmware timely and do a good job but I won't recommend anybody buy one, and depend on it for all formats based on that hope.

Same here but based on reading the threads about the players at AVSForums, we are just lucky to have few issues. We are not the norm or at least not so common that I would recommend either. I have players I can move a problematic disc to but he plans to rely on the player to play everything. I don't know how reliable his Samsung BD-P1500 is since I have never owned that model but he appears to have Samsung's support to keep it updated and playing new releases.
