HD Media Racks

I would like to see specific HD media racks being made. Not DVD racks! But racks specifically made for HD media and their smaller cases. Obviously to maximize space. DVD racks rows are about 8 inches and 1/8th tall. HD cases are just under 7 inches (6 and 3/4's) tall. So if the racks were made with HD media in mind we would gain about an inch per row.

So if you had a DVD rack that was at least 7 rows tall you would gain a 8th row if the rack was made specially for HD media.

Anyone seen anything like this floating out there in cyber space? Every couple of weeks I start searching online for anything new in this regard but havent spotted a dang thing yet.

Ive been actually thinking about having someone build me a couple of custom cases for my HD media but havent decided on a design yet.

This isn't exactly what I wanted but close enough. It can hold about 50 across without being too tight. What's nice about this rack is that there are various pre-drilled holes along the side allowing you to insert the metal rods at different positions for various configurations that suit your need or style. Therefore the individual row itself can be adjusted as well as in between each row. You can even go wild and buy the same rack to stack on top making 8 rows! Currently I have it set up as 4 rows with roughly 1.75" gap between each row once the movies are in place.

Is this hangable do you know?

Ive been looking for something similar to this but skinnier. I would like to see this in a 15 inch configuration (so maybe 25, 27 movies wide) but double the height (7/8 feet) thats hangable. Obviously if hangable the feet would have to be removed.

I have some friends that do metal work. This doesnt look to hard to design or expensive. Bet I could have them do a 15 inch wide 7/8 foot design thats hangable.

LOL thats the exact type of racks I use. I bought 6 of the elf's, I paid about $40 for each. I have it set up three sections high, and two wide. It basically looks like the pic but one more section higher basically touches the roof, and then another 3 beside it. Best part is the metal shelves are completely customizable, so you can make them exactly blu-ray sized. BTW I bought mine at Wal-mart Canada, had to go to 2 stores though to get six sections.

They don't come as wall mountable, but you could VERY easily just use the top and bottom holes on the side panels and screw them to a bracket from home depot etc.

That should be the same thing, I paid $40 for mine. And as Accord mentioned, there is no hardware included that allows you to mount it to a wall although you can go to a hardware store and find something to make that possible. If you go this route, two things to consider are the weight of the shelf with a full load of movies. The rack itself isn't heavy but with all the movies, it might be a good idea to make sure it's anchored with the wall stud. The other thing is that you won't be able to arrange the configuration like the pictures posted. The movies can't be held at an angle since there will be a wall directly behind it. Fortunately, it seems the pre-drilled holes allow for a completely vertical placement.

I ended up going with this. Cheapest I could find it online. Shipping ground was 17 bucks.

The black one. Its on the cheap side but its exactly the width I need. I need something that is no more than 15 inches wide. Otherwise I have to completely redo everything. This works perfectly and when I fill it up I can just grab another one.

From what I can tell it holds 216 give or take DVD size movies. I might do some math and drill some holes and see if I can add another horizontal row. Seems feasible that I can go from 9 to 10 rows. Which would take it from 216ish to 245ish or so.

I really liked the ELF design and it would of been perfect if I could of found one that was skinny and tall.
