Default Samsung Announces Combo Player for Holidays

As reported by EngadgetHD - http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/04/12...player-on-the/

No pricing listed but said to have full HD DVD support unlike the LG.

Is this the beginning of a peaceful co-existence?

Sorry if posted elsewhere.

As long as the price remains under a grand, it might worth considering.

I agree, except that as I already have the HD DVD first gen player, anything near a grand in price, makes it difficult to justify. But I can't see it being much less than a grand. And if it does come in at that price, it will be a long while until it reaches a price point for the general public. But it is progress.

If Samsung guarantees full HD DVD function capability and the price is affordable, it will be a huge seller this holiday season.

Currently you can buy a Toshiba HD DVD player for around $400.00 and a Samsung BD player for around $500.00. The LG player is around $1,100. and DOES NOT Support all the functions of HD DVD. It is a better deal NOW to buy the 2 players separately. Samsung will have to try to deliver with a price around $700.-$800. dollars to make it appealing to consumers.

like others said, if under a $1000, maybe but anything over and no thanks will say most of the consumer

Samsung is also considering putting out an HD DVD stand alone player.

With the prices of Toshiba players going south, I don't see any incentive to buy this unless it is SIGNIFICANTLY under $1k.

If it isn't, why not stick with separates? My TV has more than 1 HDMI port, after all!

Yeah, but even a good HDMI receiver (with 4+ HDMI ports) will start to get full after too long. I already have
  1. SA 8300 HD cable box
  2. HD-A1
  3. Possibly Xbox 360 Elite (for 1080p video)
  4. Maybe a PS3, for BD playback only...

I don't know of any TV that has 4 HDMI inputs... mine has 3, but I would have to run a cable around the front of the display... not going to happen. If, on the other hand, I had a combo player... I would be able to get by with just the three (instead of 4).

Cool I'd prefer it to be around $1000 or more

I'm not saying I'll buy it right away. But I hope they build it right. Give it a nice fast drive, HDMI 1.3, nice design, etc. I hope they do a lot of testing for compatibility, etc.

The price may be high, but it will be a quality product. Someone who hasn't jumped in to either player yet would consider it.

Inevitably, the price will slowly come down. Then I will buy it. I'd love to reduce the amount of equipment. Imagine just a cable box and dvd player into the receiver. It would be nice.

Don't hope for them to cheese out on a cheap unit that won't make anyone happy.

Sounds good to me, and will probably get some "fence sitters" to make
a decision. I already have a Sony Blu-ray [with 32 blu-ray disks on hand],
so take April releases for example ---- I only have one Blu-ray disk on
order for the whole month. If I had a dual format player my order for April
would still be one. SD DVD's on order for April is ten. May isn't much better. Until DVD's in HD become mainstream players and prices are not the driving force. It's the lack of quality content being released with the HD format
sucking hind tit.

Yes, I'm a fanboy. Deal with it.

Talking

The war is getting ugly........ I'm looking foward to see the machine playing HDi and Java. Sony must be crying big time. I think the public's opinion should be the one who choose the format not the company, with all movie studios and brands producing and making BD and HD DVD formats we'll see who is the winner.
