Default Netflix Blu-ray problems

I thought back in February Netflix said they were going to ramp up Blu-ray rental inventories. I'm still getting Very Long Wait and Long Waits on new Blu-ray releases like The Ruins and Batman: Gotham Knight. Those aren't even A-list movies!

NetFlix has done great improvments in their service since February... Back in 2007 my queue was always less than 50% available, and since March it's more like 80%-90% available... It also depends greatly in which area you receive your movies from (both new releases you listed as showing VLW/LW for you are both available for me)...

I was skeptical as well about Netflix's promise to ramp up their inventory, but after the initial release week for a Blu-ray, I've never had any problems with wait statuses in my queue. Hell, even days after the release date, I've been surprised to find a new release shipping from my queue, even when it said "Very Long Wait."

I had it for the free trial month back in May and I got 3 discs in that time period that were cracked. They were all cracked in the same way but all delivered on different days. A small, curved half-moon crack. I don't know if it was a problem during shipment or my mailman tried to force the top of the mailbox down or what, but I figured after getting 3 bad disc's in a month I wasn't going to pay for the service.

One annoying thing I've found is I've got 3 scratched Blu-Rays so far since starting the service half a year ago.

My Netflix is on hold right now. We just bought our first house and were trimming expenses for a while. But before that we rented BDs exclusively through Netflix, no SD DVDs. We NEVER had any scratched discs. The hard coat on them makes them much more resilient than DVDs. You have to really want to harm a BD in order to scratch it. Also availability was excellent, seldom did we have to wait for a disc we wanted, and shipping was a day quicker than BlockBuster. L8rz!

I would expect anything in the first week or two to have waits.

I'm in NYC, I usually get my discs from a shipping center in Brooklyn.

More examples - National Treasure 2 - I've had in my queue for over a month and that's been out since May 20th. Jumper has been in my queue way before the release date (June 10th) and it's still "Long Wait." Rambo, released on My 27th, same thing.

Ones like Michael Clayton, 27 Dresses and Spiderwick Chronicles are available.

I usually keep the ones I want at the top just in case, but the "Available Now" discs below them always ship.

I just joined Netflix in late May and my second movie that I requested was National Treasure 2. The first one was Ratatouille. NT2 shipped as soon as they received Ratatouille from me in the mail.

I'm in Austin and I got Gotham Knight today (release day). So far things are going well for me.

I also don't expect any major delays on the movies I order as I get a lot of foreign and documentary films.

I rarely request the newest releases, but I did have a few sitting at the top of my queue since release day. National Treasure 2 and Unbreakable finally shipped today, and had been there for a while. I would bet that in areas where less people have enabled BD titles from 'flix that less discs are available.

Most of my stuff is foreign/old/indie, but I do like to get the occasional new release and am usually waiting for some time for those.

I can't believe so many people admit to renting "National Treasure 2"

I got National Treasure 2 a couple weeks ago from Netflix.

I bet more people on this forum bought National Treasure 2 though. It will make them look awesome because they can write that they have +1 more Blu-ray disc in their signature. Then everyone will think they're cool for having spend $5,000 on Blu-rays.

I contacted Netflix about long waits before, and they basically told me lower plans get priority. I then downgraded to a cheaper plan, I believe the $9.99, and havent waited very long since then. Hope this helps.....

Netflix Customer Service email:
"In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service. As a result, those members who receive the most movies may experience that (i) the shipment of their next available DVDs occurs at least one business day following return of their previously viewed movie, (ii) delivery takes longer, as the shipments may not be processed from their local distribution center and (iii) they receive movies lower in their Queue more often than our other members. By prioritizing in this way, we help assure a balanced experience for all our members. Those that rent a lot of movies get a great value and those with lighter viewing habits are able to count on our service to meet their limited needs."
