Default Anybody else get in to HD DVD but have now lost alot of intrest in HD media??

I got in to HD via HD DVD and i just can not bring my self to purchase a blu-ray player

I don't have any thing against blu-ray or anything like that and even built a new PC around getting a blu-ray drive for it but now i just cant bring myself to do it.

Every time i think yep ill go buy one cause i want this or that in HD and then i just talk myself out of it

I don't know what it is cause i love HD movies the picture is awsome and the audio for the most part is awsome but it seems to have lost it's pull with me.

There is a good number of movies on blu-ray too that i dont own on HD DVD so that is not the problem either.

Trouble is i have no idea what the problem is

Anybody else feel the same??

I kinda know what you mean, I still think HD DVD is better and it sucks HD DVD lost and I love HD DVD but I didnt want to buy into Blu since it could die also but I cant go back to DVD and I love HD so I got a PS3. I was going to get one for FFXIII anyway and I paid $280 for a new 40gig (thanks mom and Walmart deal )

I was into it bigtime during the War and then a got out of it somewhat but now i support Blu, I just want HDM, I rent HD movies from XBL and buy HD movies on HD DVD (yes I still get them) and Blu ray.

I understand. However, I'm having the problem of finding the same kind of deals I did when the war was still raging. For example, due to BOGO's and other sales - my average cost of buying a HD DVD or Blu-Ray was $9-$14 (usually only $14 for Fox titles and combo discs, less for everything else). However since then, I have a hard time finding a good amount of Blu-Ray titles for less than $15... At the same time, I am finding HD DVD titles for under $10 so I've been buying a lot more of those (fire sales) while they're still available. Once I'm done with HD DVD, or fire sale prices are no longer available, I will buy more Blu-Rays I'm sure. I just hope by that time the price of older titles are around what they were when the war was still raging (like Holiday Season '07).

In the meantime, I'll continue to rent what I miss in theaters or want to see again and save purchases for the cream of the crop. Once HD DVD's completely gone (especially the deals), maybe Blu-Ray will have some killer deals for Holiday Season '08 and my excitement will ramp up yet again. It is difficult to say how much excitement was due to the whole "war" aspect and how much was just due to the deals that resulted due to the "war."

ETA: My excitement would also increase if some of my favorites are released (e.g. Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Wars Original Trilogy, Indiana Jones Trilogy/Quadrilogy, Back to the Future Trilogy, etc.) for good prices, aka less than $15-$20 per movie at Amazon. Also, I am excited about Firefly on Blu-Ray but not sure when that is set to release. I will definitely be picking up Hunt for Red October in July though and some of this Spring/Summer blockbusters once they began being released...

I sort of lost interest after I filled 3 shelves with HD thanks to the fire sales. I have around 165 HD titles. I had already bought some BD because I figured eventually I would get a BD player. I had some 30 BD titles and finally pulled the trigger on a PS3 when Best Buy matched the $100 gift card at WalMart. I still don't buy as much as I used to and usually will not get something unless it's under $20. I keep waiting for some good sales and sniping up some used stuff on the sale forum. Glad I got the PS3 because it's a descent BD player (unlike the PS2 was for DVD) and I figure I will be ready for FFXIII also. There really doesn't seem to be a lot of good stuff coming out lately that I would spend $25 to $40 on. So, I just watch my un-seen HD and BD stuff. Hard to do when you work two jobs.

Well as an example, I just bought Cloverfield on DVD. I would have picked up the HD DVD in a second, but I can't bring myself to buy a blu-ray player. I mean I now have two formats in my collection, to add a third would just be an unnecessary complication.

Also after buying a ton of HD disc for next to nothing in the last few months I'm left with a) a massive catalouge of purchases I've yet to even watch, and b) a complete disinterest in paying $20-40 for each release (make that about $50-60 if it's a UK title).

Oh yeah, that reminds me - I'd need to buy one player per region just to circumvent the region code lottery that we have now with blu discs!

It's looking like blu-ray's death will be slower and more dragged out than what we saw with HD so there isn't even an option to wait for the bust and then buy discs cheap as so many did with HD. Studios will milk the playstation format fully for the next year or two while the various download services compete with each other.

So no, you're not alone in this thinking!

I have definitely not lost interest. I am still disappointed that HD DVD is going away because I think the format is awesome.

The biggest thing that is holding me back (other than price of the stand-alone player) is the fact that I keep hearing that the players out there that are affordable are still buggy.

What I need to see to make the plunge is:

-A player that works flawlessly on every disc inserted (like my A-2)
-A player that will decode lossless audio internally (like my A-2)
-A player that fits into the above categories for $300 or less.

I just rented and watched Bourne Ultimatum on HD DVD last night and it was spectacular.

I love Hi Def movies and will definitely get a BD at some point down the road but I will hold out until I can get what I want at a price I am willing to pay.

I have lost interest completely.

I love HD DVD and still think it is the better format on practically every level.

I waited until January to actually join the fight though. So most of my time with the format has been post surrender. Even so, I still appreciate the format and the battle fought.

I've been buying HD DVDs as quickly as I can justify to my wallet. I've built up to around 55 titles and just picked up a second A20 as a net incase my primary player craps out eventually.

Blu-ray has completely lost me with the overpriced players, the lack of a standard and complete profile, the overpriced media, and the tactics used to defeat Toshiba.

I'll probably never buy Blu-ray, honestly. Not unless it eclipses DVD, which I don't see happening, at least not until the next format is just over the hill, which I'll end up waiting for.

I'm content picking up the scattered titles on HD DVD and sticking with DVD for the bulk of my media.

Wow this is the largest collection of sour grapes (in response to the OP, that's what you're feeling) on the board in months.

Superior specs, growing collection of movies, way more CE and studio involvment are the pros, weighed by the only cons of price and the performance of extras which hd-dvd players may or may not currently do better. It depends on the models of players you're comparing.

People don't take kindly to this sort of sideways encouragement, but you people need to buck up and stop sulking around. It's hd movies, you like 'em or you don't. If you're interested in, or tied to a brand (Toshiba of all choices.... I'll never get this) - then I'm truly sorry for you.

Not me. I bought an HD DVD player because I wanted to see movies in HD at the time their title selection attracted me more.

Now I still want to see movies in HD, and HD DVD has no new content. So? I buy Blu-ray. The choice is obvious.

If you cared enough about picture and audio to buy into HD DVD, then how can you suddenly stop caring?

Do not become attached to things. Or to formats.

If Blu-ray had keeled over, I'd have done exactly the same.

I'd say more, but I'd get into smackdown territory.

Well I haven't lost interest because I am still buying HD dvd's for cheap money but It is now a waiting game for me. I will definitley buy a standalone BD player but since I spent good money on all I have already I will wait for the holiday's. I am sure some good deals will be around on black friday and beyond so the word of the day is........PATIENCE.

I haven't lost a bit of interest in HDM at all. I started with my A-30 which I absolutely love. That was back in October of last year. By Christmas I had around 30 titles to enjoy. I felt pretty bad in January when Warner made the switch to Blu-ray exclusivity. OK, so I was pissed. But hey, what the hell could I do about it? They weren't going to go back. When Toshiba threw in the towel I was saddened once again. I still think that HD DVD was the better choice for quickly achieving mass market adoption. Again my opinion didn't matter. I bought a PS3 at a time Target had it on sale with a $50 GC and right after a bonus from work, effectively costing me very little. I kind of always knew that if the war had lasted much longer I would have bought into Blu anyway because of a selection of titles I wanted in HD.

To sum it all up, my opinions on HD DVD, Blu-ray, the war or the way it was fought and won mean nothing. I simply will not deprive myself of HDM. I grew accustomed to a level of quality that I can't go back from. I still have a handful of HD DVD films to enjoy and then my collection (50-60 titles) has been bought, used and thoroughly enjoyed. Can I say the same for my growing Blu-ray collection? Absolutely. I wanted HDM first and foremost. I wanted HD DVD to pull it out, or at least co-exist in some form. It didn't happen and I will always believe the wrong format won the battle. That however isn't a reason to lay down and play dead with HDM, at least not for me.

It is not sour grapes tho.

I dont care that HD DVD lost or that blu-ray won i really dont.

I do love HDM and think it is fantastic but for some reason i just cant bring myself to buy blu-ray and i dont know why

It is not just blu-ray either i have also stopped buying HD DVD even tho there are atleast another 10 titles that want and all are at very low prices

The slow realisation that buying films (and music for that matter) on a plastic disc is about to become a very antiquated?

Your not alone in your thinking at all Menaceuk. Sure I'm purple now and have been quite awhile but I much prefer s due to them having the COMPLETE profile from day 1. As it stands all the titles I want or need I have on and will flat out refuse to double dip for the version, I'll only purchase new releases from now on in . Everything about was absolutely perfect from the players to the affordability of the discs etc. With you dont have that affordability right now, if ever no matter what the blu boys say. Citizen Erased look into the LG BH 200 combo player you don't have to worry about region coding with that as there are hacks available to go around that for both BD AND SD region coding.

I was like that for quite a while after buying an A-35 and about 60 HDs then selling them all off. I knew I would eventually get a BD player. Then, the PS3 sale was a good enough reason to get a PS3 for me. (I game as well) That was 3 weeks ago and I already have 56 blu's trying to make up for the HDs that are gone.
